Hi All,

My name is Shelley and my husband is an avid Big Game hunter. He's hunted all over the world including SA and Namibia. I joined him in Namibia for a leopard hunt, a few years back, as an observer.

In May 2020, we are headed back to SA (KwaZulu Natal area). Some friends won the bid of a Charity Auction (safari) and gifted the trip to us. We will be spending the majority of our time doing the safari but my husband says he can't go to SA without hunting at least a few days.

Here's my Q, does anyone know of a good option for a 3 day (or so) hunt in SA that would be bit more upscale with things for me to do while he's hunting? I don't need day trips to shopping or the spa; would prefer things I could either do at the lodge or if a day trip is required, would prefer some kind of site seeing specific to the area - ie: game drive, hiking, something to do with nature or animals. He says plains game would be fine; he's open to most anything just as long as he gets to squeeze a few days of hunting in while we are there.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Shelley

Welcome and thanks for posting. If I only had 3 or 4 days to hunt from your area, I would go to Game4Africa on the eastern Cape. Nice accommodations for you, a great selection of plains animals for him, and you could take a nice day trip through the park preserve close by. They are a sponsor here, just read reports and ask questions. He is a lucky man to have you going along.

Did a one day tour of this game reserve but I believe it could be stretched out to more than that.

Hluhluwe iMfolozi game park.

Welcome Shelley to AH! I’m sure some of the AH advertisers in that area will read this and contact you. Have a grand adventure!

Hi K-man,

Thank you for your response. I’m going to look into Game4Africa ... really appreciate your input.

Hi hogpatrol - Hluhluwe iMfolozi game park is actually part of our safari itinerary. Do you know if there’s hunting nearby?

Hi All - I’ve been doing some research on Big game hunting and learned of what’s called a management hunt. Is such a hunt offered in SA? I’m wondering if that would be an option for my husband when we are in SA next May.

Thank you,

Shelley

I don't know for sure if they are close by but there are more than a few in that province.

Many outfitters all over RSA offer these hunts. The animals hunted are considered non-trophy. Good hunt if there is no interest in having taxidermy done. Usually more bang for the buck.

Hello and welcome aboard!!

Best of luck in your search! There are lots of great outfitters who sponsor this site. Just check hunt reports section

Welcome to AH Shelley! Nice to have you join us.

From across town in Chandler, welcome to AH! If you'd like to mix in some horse back riding with some hiking and see a different part of the country, @JKO Hunting Safaris would love to host you and your husband.

Hello,

I saw your post selling left hand rifles. Do you have any additional pics of the .416 Rem mag?

Thank you.
