New Member from Saskatchewan

Looks like a great forum!!! Headed to SA next year for my 1st trip to the Dark Continent. Very excited. Looking forward to learning from this forum

Welcome and believe me you'll enjoy this forum and learn a lot.

Brent, the 280 is a fine rifle, but I'm wondering about its' ability to take down the larger PG animals. Some of them weigh 600 lbs. or more. That being said you did not indicate what PG animals you were planning to hunt. The bush does not always present you with the "perfect" broadside shot. While there is still time you may be able to locate a rifle with a little more "horsepower."

Might I suggest a 35 whelen for your safari

Welcome from Alberta, I was one of those born in Sask. and raised in Alberta. I'm just getting ready to head up to Northern Sask. for my annual spring pickerel fishing trip.

Good to have a few more Saskatchewan guys on board - like Ragman said - you will bump into a few of the old MOD guys on here - aka Smokepole.

Been over three times - my experience would be that your .280 would be the absolute bottom line, and you would want to limit yourself to good broadside shots. Those African critters are way tougher than anything we have walkin' around over here, they can really soak up the lead. You have to remember - a wounded animal is lost time and usually lost trophy fee - smaller guns can cost you time and money. Depending on what you plan to shoot (if it includes Gemsbok, Wildebeest, Kudu etc.) I would look at something a little bigger and stick with well constructed heavy for caliber bullets.

And like someone said - make yourself a set of shooting sticks and shoot lots - best time and money you will spend Good luck and have fun....

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
