my new general purpose hunting rifle has arrived

From the looks of your target it's going to do everything you want it to

checked my extractor, its made of metal. yours must have been a different model or perhaps an older model.

tried out a box of factory nosler ammunition today at the range. this stuff was loaded with 140gr accubonds and chronographed at around 2640 fps out of my 22" barrel. while Im happy with the speed I was not impressed with the pattern on paper. in every three shot group, 2 shots would practically be on top of each other and 1 shot would land about 0.75" away. I tried three groups and all three had a flier land about 0.75" away, opening what would be 0.2" or better groups to about 1".

granted this ammunition is still plenty accurate enough for hunting so it will fill the role. but the fliers are annoying on paper! I cant wait to get my reloading set up back operational.

enjoy the swede Matt, it's a great little caliber

I almost purchased a T3 until I heard rumor of the plastic extractor breaking in cold weather. Since I live and hunt in Alaska that would be completely unacceptable. So without any further research I went another way and spent twice what a new T3 would cost. Since then I have looked at numerous T3 new and used and none of them had a plastic extractor. I am thinking it may just be a limited run of guns that had them?

Congrats on the purchase!

Not bad for factory ammo actually. Did you let the barrel cool a bit before the third shot? That shouldn't be much of an issue with the floated barrel, but maybe.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ
