I was just wondering how often in a charge situation do you need more than 2 shots?? Or have the time to get off more than two? Be honest guys Id love to know.

I would venture a guess that most who have actually faced a charge from a dangerous animal and needed more than two shots are no longer around to tell the tale.

You just take your two shots, then the PH and his assistant take the rest.

Zero, if you don't take your gun out of the case.

Apparently, if you have a semi auto you can get a few off.

They each got a couple..

YOUTUBE is full of examples.

I’ve only, thank God, faced one charge in my life. A close range leopard charge. Leopard was not wounded but as soon as he saw us he charged. I was only able to get one shot off hitting the cat in the mouth and body. The PH fired at point blank range, then the cat bit him and I shot it off of him so finally got the second shot off ending the tragic event. See my report for more info.
I now have a double gun but hope never to see a charge again.
Regards,
Philip

Wow, those leopard charge videos are intense. As was Phillip's hunt report

by the looks and sounds of it, its unlikely to then reload and re engage

Your double will take care of business and if not PH P.E. will use his 500 NE backing you up!

Reminds me of a old joke. Woman asks pilot do planes like this crash very often? Pilot politely replis, no mam just once!

I've had to deal with two charges. First was a buffalo which was poorly shot and waited for us as we tracked. One shot from the PH's .458 WM turned it, by which time I managed to get one in its rear end, but my shot was useless.

Second was a leopard. First time it charged was from about 10 feet, and three shots from a Remington semi-auto 12 gauge turned it but didn't kill it. We knew where it was hiding, and got a tracker to throw a log into the bush. When it came out three of us who were armed were ready (and two trackers holding flashlights). It took a shotgun round (buckshot), a .300 WM and a .458 Lott. Dead. Skin was a mess but no one hurt.

The ability to get off multiple shots quickly is under-rated. Apart from lack of practice, the problem hunters face is that a scope is not only useless in a charge, it's an actual hindrance. A good reason for detachable scopes. Take it off for follow up on dangerous game. Which means it might be useful (and a bit of fun) to practice closer shots on moving targets without a scope.

Realistically though, these are issues for the PH rather than the hunter. Having said that, I was glad I was at least able to hold my own in these situations, and if you're going to hunt dangerous game with any regularity, it's worthwhile practicing and making sure you have the right equipment. I would like to think that anyone hunting dangerous game could do what @Philip Glass was able to do, but I know that's not the case.

Depends on the situation and how good your first shot is and also what animal you are talking about and from what distance the charge starts from.

It would be very rare for a client to get off more than two shots in a charge even if he is using a double rifle.

So the general consciences is you won’t get off more that two

conscience/s-a person's moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to one's behaviour. I am not sure of but consensus yes, rarely more than two especially in a charge situation.

Is an ejector of no value in a charge situation....?

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!
