What are Africa's most dangerous in your opinion and experience? I had only 10 options for the poll, so I had to limit the number of choices, but with more options I might include other options as well (female with young, night situations, provoked or non-provoked, mating season etc). So feel free to add comments reflecting on those situations as well.

well, if you're a PH or hunter, then wounded Ele, Buff and Lion will definately kill you. If you live in the rural community in wildlife areas and have to collect water etc, fish for a living etc, then Hippo and Croc, Hyena and maybe Lion.

for what I do it is the former

A wily hyena is no slouch about being dangerous
Crop raiders ( hippopotamus and elephant) crocodiles on villagers

Had to do a search cuz this sounded familiar... sorry

Statistically speaking, mosquitoes kill more humans than any other animal so I'm disappointed there wasn't room for them on the list... ;)

Alaskan mosquitoes are large enough that double rifle aficionados would feel right at home.

As someone who grew up in the swamps of south Louisiana, I made the mistake once of thinking that going up into the colder Rockies would give me a respite from the bloodletting.

I was wrong! :D

My very novice opinion:

1) Mosquitoes
2) Snakes
3) Crocs if you have to go near water.
4) Hippos if you have to go near water.
5) Tuskless cow elephant

If you're hunting:

1) Tuskless cow elephants

Had to go with Cow Elephant. It also seems that a lone cow Buffalo can be very testy and willing to charge unprovoked.

Not sure what a "crop rider" is. Never heard that term before.

Hijackers and farm raiders are definitely a hazard in RSA but I'm not sure they'd make the top ten. For a country where police and military have become a joke, infrastructure all but collapsed, and significant poverty exists, South Africa is still, relatively speaking, safe and surprisingly peaceful.

A quote from a former friend and safari operator. When asked the same question regarding most dangerous, he replied "None are dangerous...until they are."

I’ve never worried about any one animal, so many things can go wrong quickly, but if I were ever bitten by a Black Mamba - death almost 100% certain within a few hours “Unless” you get antivenin…and most safari camps aren’t keeping that in stock and many (Tanzania, Zimbabwe, etc..) are more then 3 hours from a Hospital. I know the Odds of getting bitten very slim, odds of surviving a bite also slim. Also, death by Hyena disturbs me - seems sloppy, slow, and painful…..not that Lion or Elephant would be peaceful

I understand hyenas have one of the strongest if not the strongest bites. One could pop your skull like it was a birthday balloon. Don't imagine it would be painful very long. :D

In general, statistically, I think hippo. While hunting I think elephant cow and/or buffalo if we talking about people getting gored.

There was s similar thread a few years back and I answered croc, and still say the same. We are out of out depth in his element and he has full advantage. If you enter his domain, and he is there, he will attack you and likely kill you in a very unpleasant way. The croc is the arch opportunist and looks upon humans as food only, no fear.
