Kudu Pricing?

I took a kudu as an add-on during a Zimbabwe buffalo hunt. It was $1600.
No fence concession area.

Maybe you could add a couple more days to the hunt and transfer to another outfitter to hunt Kudu and another animal, after all you're all ready there. As you will see the airfare is a good chunk of the costs of a African safari, if you are in the Eastern Cape, especially Port Elizabeth I suggest you call KMG Safaris and talk to Marius, he will put you on some great animals.

Curious what those have paid in South Africa for Greater Kudu? The outfitter we are going with likely in 2028 has them on the price list from 4800 to 5800 seems like that maybe high compared to others. Not to be cliche but we bid on the classic hunt auction at DU and "won" for 4200 4 guys "5 full days of hunting" 2:1 PH with Blesbok or Impala, Warthog, Wilderbeast and Managment animal. Did find out Impala is no longer on that list 2026 and later after the fact which was a disappointment that was one of my hitlist but Impala is a fair add on at 600 and they let you drop the management animal for a 200 dollar credit. I want to hunt a Kudu and i probably wont go back to africa again until my kids turn 16 so they can hunt also which will be 2036. Part of me just wants to pay the add on for the Kudu but if the price is crazy high compared to others I don't want to be a chump.

Basically just curious what others have paid for greater Kudu in 2024 and onwards.
Please stay away from DU auction hunts! The list of disaster stories is a mile long. You might consider a package hunt that would be far cheaper than what you are looking at now. For an example Frontier has a 10day/12 animal safari for $9500 that includes Kudu etc. Just FYI to compare as it's always been cheaper than the bait and switch auction hunts in the end.

Yup, I know of reputable outfitters that have 8 day, 7 trophy animal hunts, including Kudu for $5500... the auction hunts RARELY end up being a good deal.

Kudu & Wildebeest

1x1; $5,500 / 2X1; $4,500 ea.

Kudu, Black Wildebeest, Blesbuck, Impala, Springbuck, Warthog, Mountain Reedbuck

I’ve done a couple of auction hunts, I took extra animals off of their published price lists on their websites. I wouldn’t pay extra just because it’s an auction hunt but I made it clear I would most likely spend $5000 or so on extra animals which I did.
If you’re going to the Limpopo province, they seem to have a higher price on kudu but with that being said they also have some of the biggest. Kudu are one animal along with a few others (buffalo, sable and roan come to mind) that often have a sliding pay scale, so you’ll have to decide if a couple of extra inches of horn is worth the extra cost.

As said earlier the Eastern Cape kudu are smaller but more affordable and as @jomw10 and @Tundra Tiger stated earlier @GAME 4 AFRICA SAFARIS is a great place to get one.

No matter what you decide go and have the hunt of a lifetime.

Smaller yes, relatively, from what I understand. My first was 50". Zero complaints from me. :D

Kudu are $1200-2500 on most non-auction hunts outside of South Africa.

South Africa kudu are more expensive than kudu in Botswana, Namibia, and then it gets expensive.

Auction hunts price kudu as high as they can, because they know everyone wants one.

I hunted last year on a DU auction hunt with same outfitter that you are going with probably. I was able to get the price for the Kudu when we bought the hunt. $3500. They had the Kudu priced at $4500 last year when we hunted. Never hurts to ask about pricing and negotiate. That being said, it was a great hunt to get my feet wet, but I will be going other places now. Lots to see and do in Africa!

That’s a really exceptional cape kudu. I’m glad they are smaller (on average) than southern greater kudu. They are a great trophy and great hunt at reasonable pricing. Limpopo pricing on greater kudu is insane to me.

I went to Rosedale Safaris (East Cape) in 2024. My Kudu cost me $1700 and I see this year 2026 they are $1900. Part of the cost increase is the value of US Dollar.
Southen Greater Kudu are more money than Cape Kudu. Can't compare those prices.

Unfortunately that seems to be a common story on auction hunts.
I'm Learning That. Haha
makes me wonder if the auction places have 2 separate price lists . I am going to enjoy the hunt with what we have and not add on any high end stuff unless once i am there offer fair pricing for the add ons.
I just looked at my outfitters website and they do have a different price list than what I was provided with the Auction paperwork. However, the prices on the Auction list aren't all higher. The day rate is a bit higher, as well as some animals, but other animals are Cheaper. Their "packages" offer much better pricing than individual trophies from either list.

I have been quoted as much as 18,000 for a Kudu in South Africa. The prices are certainly going up on all animals, but especially the ones that are large. For a Kudu that is 59" and over
Yeah, I'm seeing $7,500 to $8,500 hundred for 58"+ and "POR" for 60"+, which makes me concerned that the bull would be Put and Take. I have no interest in shooting a farm animal.

Yup, I hunted with someone last year that gave us a price list when we were looking at a hunt. A different price list when we won their auction, and a different price list when we showed up due to "increases that year" . Then to top it off the PH would quote another higher price only when we were at full draw and ready to shoot, as it was always a "special" animal we were about to shoot. We tell everyone to read the fine print and see if the contracts say "prices subject to change".

I think pretty much all the Kudu in South Africa are stocked at one time or another.

Yeah, I watched a Video linked in another thread where the president of PHASA was blowing hot air for about 30 minutes, pretty much stating that ALL PG in SA is bought at auctions and stocked. Because it HAS to be that way for Outfitters to make money. I'm sure its not like that on every property with every outfitter but I would hate for an anti hunting lobby to catch wind of that video. His statements make the whole "conservation" argument pretty hard to win.

That is correct though. All game at the ranches are treated as livestock, that is not something new. Not much different than elk and deer high fence ranches here in the States.

Not all SA operations are "solely" put & take... perhaps the original breeding stock was trans-located, but in many larger concessions, the game was born and raised right on the property. Truly wild free roaming game is more likely to be found outside of SA however, and ironically those prices are likely to be lower.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
