Also does anyone have a rough idea on a packing list? Should I bring cash or card to pay for trophy fees / tips / taxidermy
A card with no foreign exchange fees is safer but check with your outfitter on payment methods for the hunt and tips for the staff.

When traveling it is always a good idea to carry some cash with you simply put not everyone or every business accepts credit cards or traveler checks.

When/If tipping giving tips in cash USD or ZAR it is better to hand the tips out yourself to the individual(s) as a way of showing your appreciation for their service to you and that the correct amount of tip is going to the correct people.

Check out the forums Tipping Guide as to the pros and cons if you choose to include tips on your final billing or handing the total tip envelope to one person to dibby out tips for you.

Also if your credit card company attaches fees for international use, why would you want to pay more in bank fees than the item you are purchasing.

Both Garry Kelly safaris and John x safaris use splitting image taxidermy and they are all good outfits.i have used all of above but suggest only dip and pack in SA and then let your local taxidermist finish mounts

Welcome to AH you are getting some great advice!

thank you everyone for your input. i just don't want to spend a ton of money on mounts and then not be happy how they came out. Sounds like I'm better off getting them done state side

Welcome to AH! Glad to have you on board.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
