Looks like maybe an interesting development in this. In the summer DSC auction guide there is an auction for hunting 3 game farms in Angola.

I found on another site,
Apparently an auction for Angola hunt is open in 4 days, Three ranches: Carivo game farm (2 x kudu, 1 x warthog), Green ox ranch ( 2 x waterbuck, 1 x eland), Onyati game farm (1 x eland).
None of those ranches I can find on internet.
Well, if true, it is a modest start, lets hope it kicks off!

It is a humble start but still a great achievement. Hopefully it will work out and Angola's people and wildlife will benefit from it. Definitely something I will watch carefully.

For almost 20 years I am hearing about hunting in Angola without anything really happening. There was even talk of hunting the rare Giant sable antelope. We continue to dream, just like about hunting in India.

Let's just hope that security is good! Also, that the land mines of years of civil war have been cleared.
They were working hard to clear them for years and in 2024 when I hunted the Caprivi Strip in Namibia
they were still having issues with loss of elephants that would migrate north across the river to catch the early rains stepping on land mines.

I hunted in the Caprivi Strip on the Angolan border in the late 1990s. There were "Do not enter. Mines" signs everywhere. If you know how haphazardly mines are laid in Africa, you can imagine how haphazardly they are also cleared.

I did not go but I wanted to see what the auction went for today. I was surprised only $19k for 14 days 2 hunters, 2 kudu, 3 eland, 2 waterbuck, 1 warthog on 3 game farms. If hunting does reopen someone really got a deal, but I think there must still be some uncertainty. The Angola fishing package went for $25k.

Thanks 375Fox, I was wondering what they went for. Hopefully someone learned more details. I believe there was a one hour seminar on hunting opening up in Angola at the DSC Gala, somebody on AH probably attended. Cheers

Do not expect too much in the start.
If it starts at all, it will be modest.

The first incentives may activate and motivate future game menagment plans, and reintroduction programs, but it will take at least a decade to make some more significant results, under condition of goverment support and positive legislation.

The areas adjacent to Caprivi would be viable areas almost immediately. War also keeps people and development out of areas and isn’t always bad for wildlife such as South Sudan. Wildlife is likely very fragmented but certain areas likely still have very viable numbers. There was a documentary where they traveled from headwaters in Angola to Okavango delta in Botswana. It looked very wild.

I’m assuming this was documentary I watched or at least the same project. At 20 minutes mark it shows camera traps and bushmeat poaching. There are wild dogs, lions, hippo, sitatunga, roan, oribi, and others still there at least in pockets.

Pockets of wildlife may be tens of thousands of acres or more. We don’t know. Finding suitable pockets of wildlife for viable concessions will likely be less of a challenge than finding areas declared safe from land mines.
