Rhino poachers shot dead in KZN

The bodies of three alleged rhino poachers were removed from the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday after a shootout a day earlier.

Rhino poaching has been on the increase in the northern KZN reserve‚ with 21 killed so far this month.

In just two days last week‚ seven rhino were killed - six of them on World Rhino Day.

By the end of last week‚ 115 rhino had been killed in KZN since the beginning of 2016.

On Wednesday‚ anti-poaching rangers encountered suspected poachers in the reserve. The three men were killed in a shootout. SAPS units and IPSS Medical Rescue teams spent three hours recovering the bodies.

"An intensive three-hour joint operation took place yesterday to recover the bodies of three alleged poachers‚” said IPSS spokesman Candace Grobler.

“Rescuers recovered the bodies of the poachers from a deep ravine in the bush of Hluhluwe game reserve. The deceased were accessed on foot after the rescuers were dropped off by a SANDF Oryx helicopter. The deceased were carried out of the dense bush by the rescuers to a staging area where they were winched up into the airframe before being flown out‚" said Grobler.

According to KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife spokesman Musa Mntambo‚ 91 poachers had been arrested in 2016 compared to 49 in 2015.

Darn what a shame. But a "deep" ravine near the coastal town of Hluhluwe?

Got what they deserved? Maybe I'm too harsh..

In a "shoot out" with the Anti poaching squad, they got exactly what they deserved.
They had the choice to throw down their weapons. They apparently did not.

Wise choice I'd say. :ROFLMAO:

New package Marius?

Instead of wasting money on extraction, can you imagine the size Bushpig you'll take off that site?;)

Always thinking Marius.
There goes parks squandering another opportunity for conservation and sustainable hunting.

It's early in the morning here Marius, so my brain isn't fully functioning yet, so no I'm not seeing it?
The first thing that came to my mind was how this story reinforces the argument that lawful hunting is not the problem. That the dollars that legal, ethical hunting brings in seems to be the most effective manner to combat these animals (the two-legged kind). It seems that those opposed to hunting just refuse to face the reality of what's going on in the world.

But...like Phil, it's early and I haven't had my second cup of coffee yet so maybe I'm missing the point as well. :A Tongue:

Can't say they were after meat to feed anyone.

Hyena & Jackal have to eat too

...and you know this works because....;)

Out here in Lanark we call it the triple S rule. Shotgun, Shovel and a Short Memory ;)

Marius I was thinking the same thing why bother taking them out let the pigs, hyena and birds have them.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
