How many of you use QD rings

During a 21 day hunt in Zim, for the first 14 days, my scope never left my rifle. I don't recall a single incidence that I even considered it.
When we traveled to our Buff concession, about 45 minutes into our 1st morning, our trackers spotted 3 Dugga boys approx 200 yards off in the tall grass.
My PH (Harry Bennie) said:
"We're going to do this up close and personal...you won't need your riflescope...if you're more comfortable with it, make certain it is tuned to it's lowest power...but if we make this happen you will be shooting from 100 ft or so"
I flipped the levers, slid the scope off, and dropped it on the seat.
In this day of precision engineering, and the absolute unfailing ability of (quality) QD mounts to faithfully and religiously return your optics to exact zero, I cannot imagine why one would not afford themselves the option of deferring to express sights as circumstances dictate.
Respectfully...IMHO.

I use them on any rifle that has open sights.... just in case....

1. Qd rings or no on DG rifle?
2. If yes, which ones do you all like?
3. How often are you really removing your scope? I assume it would be on tracking and follow-up shots post the first shot?

1. Yes, must have, not only on DG rifle, but also on all my hunting rifles

2. I Dont have favorite. But (arguably) german swing mount provides fastest removal. One lever to operate in single move, as opposed to two screws on average set up on front and rear ring

3. I hunted only one buffalo so far. Follow up shots done with scope.
I took my rifle twice on safari so far.
But I remove scope every time when flying by airplane i keep it in cabin luggage.

Other rifles: if I am invited as a guest to driven hunt, QD mounts are back up. I might be driving 200 miles for such a hunt on invitation, or go by ferry to next island, and If there is a problem with scope, not having QD mounts, and iron sights would mean ruined hunt for me in case scope gets misaligned, or damaged.

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
