Help Identifying a Muzzle Brake

I recently purchased Ruger Safari Magnum in 375H&H. Nice gun, better than average wood, nice trigger, but some previous owner installed a muzzle brake. I’d like to remove it and replace it with a thread protector, but can find nothing about this particular brake. I’m in favor of taking it off and throwing it away, but I need to find out thread pitch and other information to do that. It’s labeled “ULTRA BRAKE“ and has a patent no. listed. I’ll try to attach a picture. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have calipers, or better yet, a thread gauge then it’s easy enough to measure and find out.
 
Sure is an ugly one, as already suggested I'd unscrew it and measure. Could take the brake to a hardware store and thread bolts into it until you find the winner. Probably 5/8-24
 
First option, send message to ruger, ask if they had thread on this model, and what it is.

Next.
If you have a local gun shop, well supplied, go there.
Start changing and testing the available brakes, till getting one with good thread.
Then, hopefully you will identify the thread.

second option, gunsmith. He can easily find the thread, and make thread protector.

FInally , get caliper, and measure.

I think you have a good chance that is already standardized.
Most of factories are within same standard, and recently it was formalised.

I agree with you that the muzzle brake should be removed from your otherwise excellent rifle.

Could an experienced Machinist possibly use a lathe to make a thread protector out of that hideous brake thing itself ?

Probably not 5/8x24. That thread was not common on brakes back then. My suggestion is take to gunsmith and have him cut off threads and crown.

THIS! I hate muzzle brakes and certainly not needed on a .375 H&H.
 
With it being on a 375 I would guess that it is a 5/8x24 thread.

But to get a cap you need to take it to a gunsmith to have him machine one out. That is unless you want a great big old hex nut sitting on the end of the barrel.

I also agree that if you don't want it on just take it to a gunsmith and have the threads cut off and recrowned. That will be the easiest and cheapest way to get rid of it.
 
With a .375, it may be 3/4-24. Southern Precision Rifle sells thread protectors.

Does anyone have any information on this particular brake? I cannot find anything about It? Nothing, nada. Anyone ever seen one like it?
 
I agree with others, cut and re-crown. I can’t think of any scenario where you would want threads on a .375.

No reason to waste time and energy investigating something useless. Cut it, crown it...move on.
 
Buy a 5/8-24 and a 3/4-24, then just return the one that doesn't work. However, it would be cheap and better to just cut it and re-crown.
 
That is an interesting muzzle brake. I Google'd the hell out of it while I was on my "thinking chair" this morning. I thought for sure the patent information would have given it a chance. All I came up with as a lead is Darrell Holland of hollandguns otherwise nothing remotely close.
 
Just unscrew it and try a 5/8x24 cap
