Hello from Idaho-new member just introducing myself and looking for information on Kowas Safaris

I hunted with Kowas in May of 2019 and could not have had a better experience and would without ANY hesitation hunt with them again. I researched outfitters for more than two years before deciding to book our trip with Kowas. Many, many people on this website have made the same choice.

Welcome to AH!

Thank you everyone for the replies. This has been a great welcome glad I found this forum

Welcome aboard!

I've only hunted the African continent once and that was with Kowas in Namibia so my experience compared to other outfitters/locations pretty limited.

That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to go back there again. The Strauss family are great people and the staff are also wonderful. Nice living area, great food. Animals were abundant from my limited experience, drought has been an issue lately and may effect game populations.
I was worried about the drought I did some reading on that

Growing up in Montana and then living in idaho the last 25 years I have always just hunted out my back door and have had a lot of different animals to chase. But I went on one south African safari in 2017 which was amazing and I caught the bug big time! I hunted 10 days in the limpop0 area. It was great and we had a lot of large concessions to hunt. the smallest was 10000 acres so the hunting was great and the fences didn't bother me. I do want to go back with my son (17) and hunt truly free ranging African animals without the fence. I have been looking at kowa safaris. Does anyone have any experience with them? Since it would be my sons first trip I want him to have a similar experience as I had in Limpopo where it seemed like there was game everywhere. What should my expectations be in quantity and quality of game? Anyways I would appreciate any feedback from people have on kowa safaris that have been with them.

Hello rod clugston,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

Cheers,
Paul.

Hi Rod,
I hunted with the Strauss' at Kowas in 2016 and can reccommend them without reservation. We had a fantastic time, the hunting was amazing and we were very well looked after. The quality of trophies was first class. They have one area around the main lodge (16000 acres) which is game fenced and the rest of their massive Dordabis conservancy is low-fence cattle country. Or they have the option of their camp in the national park in the north of Namibia for a true wilderness experience.

Either way book with confidence.

Cheers
Tim

I am looking forward to being in Idaho in October for my first elk and mule deer hunt.

I have had the amazing experience of hunting with Kowas three times. The first two times was at the Dordabis Conservancy and last July I was hunting in their Mukango Camp on the Kavango River up in the Caprivi Strip. You will have an amazing African experience with Team Kowas.

Thanks was there a lot of different species of plains game available in good numbers in the mukango camp? That is their only area that is available during our time frame. What part of Idaho will you be hunting?

In Mukango Camp you will see elephants, Cape buffalo, hippos, lions, leopards, and crocs. You could also see lechwe and tessbe in their native environment. There is also a great deal of plains game such as zebras, kudus, impala. Also ask about tiger fish fishing. You will be in wild Africa!

How do you send a pm on here! I’m sure it’s simple just a little technology challenged sometimes ha ha

Had time to get on my computer and find the link to my hunting report from Mukango Camp. I was there from day 1 to day 5. The rest of the days we had moved to another camp in Dotzi Conservancy. Jacques Strauss is a guest PH at the Dotzi Camp.

Mate I have never hunted with Kowas but have only heard and read GOOD things about them.
I hunted with Osombahe Nord safaris run and owned by Harold and Liezel. I have written about it in hunting reports under hunting with Osombahe Nord safaris run and owned by Harold and Liezel. If you read that it will save me repeating it. BOTH would give you and your son/family a great experience. My son's 15 and now completely hooked on hunting to the point I asked him what will happen if you have a girlfriend that doesn't like hunting. Replied get another girlfriend.
Cheers mate
Bob Nelson.

Rod,
I had the pleasure of hunting with Jacques Strauss of Kowas Hunting Safaris in 2016.
He was the junior of two Professional Hunters on my safari and was there to assist on what became a successful hunt for a big tom leopard that had managed to survive two previous safaris that had sought this cat. Don’t let his youth fool you . . . Jacques is an absolute leopard MASTER. Beside a few warthogs for bait, I did not pursue any other species with Jacques, so I can’t speak with first hand experience to his expertise on those. BUT, since he grew up in the Camelthorn bush of the central part of the country, I’d fully expect him to be VERY GOOD at his craft on all the classic Namibian species, gemsbok, kudu, springbok, eland, zebra, etc., etc. as well as the big stuff. I’m guessing he probably shot his first kudu at about the age most of us were learning to ride a bicycle. He also happens to be great company, so one word of caution . . . if you hunt with him, you WILL want to do it again. And needless to say, staff, vehicles, equipment . . all excellent. I can recommend him without hesitation. I’d be happy to discuss more . . . pm me and we can talk by phone.

Here's a photo of Jacques holding the cat.
