If you want to know about importation into Canada, specifically BC be certain to shoot me a DM, I will provide my phone number. I import all my own dip and pack, (completed mounts are easier, their art), so far 4 of big 5, many CITES, TOPS, total about 80. I have spoken to many site members and they have also imported their own, all without issues. Saves $1000s.

Its not hard, process and details must be followed explicitly but not rocket science.

Mark, importing "completed" mounts are facing a lot more scrutiny.

Agree, same rules and regs for a long time, just more verification of those rules. ie back wood/plaques and such. Most important is following those rules, and ensuring the companies in Africa do long before they are ready to ship.

The biggest issue I see is agents freewheeling the rules and NOT following CBSA/CFIA rules. Toronto the worst, Calgary close. I asked the Canadian CO of CFIA that and have his response, I always forward that before importing starts. Same for CBSA, I find most agents do not really know rules are written, so I provide before I meet them.

So far not a single issue, 15-30 mins at Vancouver CBSA then on to pic up crates. As rule states CFIA inspection is only required after CBSA opens crate to inspect. If any of the listed no goes are encountered he calls CFIA, if none found he has the ability to release shipment. That's why perfect D&P rules must be followed in Africa. I even have a plastic leakproof crate company in SA that I use. No wood and cardboard. And they are cheaper than the normal 15% crating charge.

Last 3 members on here had completed mounts, 20 mins at CBSA and on their way. As importer you must be on the African companies, demand pics, close ups of all before it gets plastic sealed. Same goes for all paperwork, I have couriered to home address before shipment for verification, I have found sex incorrect and had all paperwork redone. Sure hope all stays the same.

Welcome Emkull! Here is my impression: 1st safari— plains game South Africa or Namibia
2nd— plains game with wife.
3rd— Cape buff and remaining plains game
4th— leopard and Cape buff and oddball plains game.
5th— maybe elephant and specialty plains game
6th— species that really trip your trigger possibly with son or father or entire fsmily

Namibia and SA almost always first locations due to ease of travel and fairly inexpensive. Then Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mozambique, Botswana, etc. These are VERY general impressions but the more posts I read the more they seem to hold true. My advice to you is ask lots of questions on this site and you will get lots of info. FYI as far as your travel you can’t beat Jennifer and Darren Ginn at travel express in Montana. Lots of help there. Best of luck to you. You are about to embark on a grand adventure. We all wish we were first timers again.!!

Hey.. I received my Package of completed mounts back from Bullseye Taxidermy last month. It was imported/ handled into Canada to Vancouver via YOFREIGHT. The only issue was getting the Buff skull back. It had to go to Vancouver instead of Calgary.. No big deal..

Do you like the buff skull? I'm thinking about doing that instead of full shoulder mount this summer. I think the skull and a really good photo would be appropriate and lots less expensive and LOTS let room on the wall. Let me know.
