I've finally got around to planning my first African hunting trip next year to Zimbabwe; to help stave off jetlag, I figured I'd fly in 24-48hrs early and do a day in Johannesburg or Harare.

From some preliminary research, Jo'burg appears to have several good museums/hunting shops/restaurants, whereas I know very little about Harare.

Any recommendations for one over the other?

I live in Harare. What would you like to do here, can offer some recommendations. Not much on the museum front unfortunately

Been a long long time since I was in Harare (buildings still had Salisbury on them) but I thought there was a reasonable Natural History Museum there ?

Amanzi is pretty much the go to in Harare for out of towners. Nice place

Lots of great places for good graze as well, depending on what you like

@UNTAMED KNIVES

Whenever I go overseas I always try to hit up local shops for hunting gear that is hard to find or not available in the USA such as Safari shirts, boots, quality rifle slings, knives and even reloading bullets.

Being a native of Zim could you mention some different shops are in Zim where locals go to get such items in Harare, Bulawayo, Vic Falls, ect?

Also, I know you do online knife sales, are any of your knives available in shops?

Stay at Amanzi and also go check out Patrick Mavros’ jewelry shop.

Gunshops- there is Feredays- it will be disappointing after the states but you can get Coutney boots there. They do canvas bags and things but not very exciting. There are a couple of gunshops around but all pretty poorly stocked and boring. You can also hit the crazy Market at Newlands Shopping Centre, behind Feredays. There are some nice restaurants around, Khaya Nyama, Mozambik and The Brahman. Personally, I would recommend a few days in Vic Falls as there is not much to do around Harare. There are loads of coffee shops etc but not much that would interest a visiting hunter.

I had a pair of custom elephant skin boots mad for me by Gail at Courtney and picked up when I was in Harare. Wore them through US customs no problem

Just check out the local restaurants, shops, markets etc. It will be more just to recover from the flight and pick up a couple of souvenirs.

Looks like I'll be staying at Almanzi

What would you recommend to do in Vic Falls (other than visiting the Falls)?
Can you recommend any specific lodging place?

You can fly Delta, United, British, Turkish or a few others into Johannesburg. Lodging choices are numerous (City Lodge, Africa Sky, Afton, etc). You’ve got several different museums or touristy things you can do, great restaurants, and a few really good cigar shops with Cubans. You can also visit Safari Outdoors. You can also fly into Cape Town from the states or into Vic Falls from Joburg and get over your Jet Lag there with a lot more touristy things to do.

If you fly Emirates or Qatar you can fly direct into Harare. Amanzi is the only place that really caters to hunters. Several other hotels and guest houses. Your touristy options are a bit more limited. You can also grab a hotel in Doha to cut down on your Jet Lag.

My preferred route is through Doha, but the Jet Lag never really hits me so overnighting hasn’t been needed. This past trip into Bulawayo, the situation with Iran had me cancel my Qatar flights and book Delta forcing me to overnight in Joburg and catch an early morning flight out. For me it’s 6 one way, half a dozen the other way.

Visit the National Park, some shopping, several great restaurants, tea at the Victoria Falls Hotel if you don’t want to stay, you can get a sundowner cruise above the falls, or book an afternoon fishing trip and get the same sunset view. If you’re adventurous you’ve got the Zip Line, and Bungee Jumping. 2 Days is about perfect for me in the falls.

I just stayed a night at Grosvenor House in Harare, wonderful place, and had a splendid dinner at Three Monkeys. Both were recommended by my PH with Dalton & York. The lady that runs the BnB has a teen son with PH ambitions and who did a sort of internship this April/May with D&Y, spending 5-6 weeks in the bush between Omay North and South.

I’d go back to both of these establishments happily, multiple times.

I recommend Amani Lodge as a nice place to stay.
I just noticed that I misspelled the name of the place. It is Amanzi Lodge.

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
