Greenpeace activist gets arm bitten off after hugging a white shark

We need a tad bit more chlorine in the old gene pool.

While the entire story is fake, it does point to a disturbing trend.

The tendency to suggest that humans can develop 'friendly' if not 'loving' relationships with wild animals if only we treat them with respect, is both a dangerous one for those involved but more importantly from our personal perspective, it creates a mindset which is anti-hunting.

This is the Walt Disney syndrome. Having said that, I loved those movies when I was child, and still like them today, but I have no recollection of anyone suggesting that what we were seeing on the screen was representative of real life. Today, that's clearly not the case, and if every animal is a friend, then every animal can be a pet.

And what kind of person would kill a pet (or a potential pet)?

ORIGIN
On 1 February 2018, the dubious web site World News Daily Report published a fake news article about a Greenpeace activist who had his arm bitten off by a shark after they tried to give it a hug:

An environmental activist was almost killed Yesterday in the Indian Ocean, after the great white shark he was trying to hug suddenly attacked him and bit his arm off.

21-year old Darrell Waterford, from Eugene in Oregon, was participating in a promotional video for Greenpeace, some 100 nautical miles away from the Australian city of Perth.

This is not a genuine news article.

World News Daily Report has a well-known history of publishing misinformation. The site carries a disclaimer labeling all of its content as “satirical” in nature:

Proof they just don't get it. Protect the sharks ok but all common sense and reason seems to be lacking in these people .

Scott - it didn't happen. Fake news.

Which is not to say I don't agree that common sense is lacking these people. But not in this case. Because there is no case.

If you're stupid or dead, you don't know it but everyone around you does.

Seeing this is fake, but I’m sure Greenpeace will have volunteers lined up for ‘hug an elephant’ day if they go that route though.

We should promote that for all donors to HSUS! Certainly for a couple of the cranky Cows. I’m certain they could use it.
