ETHIOPIA: Rocky Valley Safaris

Another great adventure! Thanks for taking us with you. Fantastic looking old bull.

Uganda and Ethiopia on the same trip. That is pretty special. Only topped by the top notch animals you got on the trip.

April 2018. A month to remember!

Wow, what a trip and what a bull!! Congrats on the amazing experience, and thanks for sharing

A major hunt for one animal. I know you have hunted a lot, but I don't think you'll ever forget this one!

:E Eek:

Wow, wow, wow!

What a great "add-on" that is. Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventures with us! I just love stories like this, the unusual that few of us will get to do. The stuff that dreams are made of.

Great hunt and a great bull!

Thank you for sharing the report. You had me thinking I was right there with you. Very nice trophy.

Having put four kids through college, I can certainly relate. It is painful while it's happening, but once they get through college, get a job and get off your payroll, it's like getting a big pay raise.
Well, I'm in the same boat as you were - I have four! Two this year, one next and the last one in 2020.

Wow...congrats on a fine animal and thanks for sharing...I am so risk averse I would have settled for the first mature bull! Kudos for waiting!
I hear you @npm352, Day 3 when I was heading back to camp I asked myself "what in the heck were you thinking when you passed that bull"!

Thanks @Wheels, no doubt it is a month I wont forget. That being said, I will go back to Ethiopia one day and wouldn't pass the opportunity to hunt Uganda again. It is absolutely gorgeous with lots of game.

You know @sierraone, you are absolutely right - I will never forget the experience. And everytime I can share that with people in my trophy room it will take me back. The Mountain Nyala truly is one of Africa's Greatest Game Animals.

Fantastic scenery!

Many thanks for the responses to my posts and all the kind words. Thats what I appreciate most about this group, y'all are always positive and genuinely happy for each other! It is my honor to share my experiences with you all and I always enjoy your reports as well.

@JES Adventures What's the plan for the mount?

Well @cagkt3, It's a lifesize for certain but I have got to make a plan for a new trophy room (house/barn). If all goes according to plan, my youngest will head off for college in 2020 and I will go back to the country. Then I can build something to house my collection and enjoy it with friends.

What a beautiful bull and awesome hunt thanks for takeing us along ,you will relive this hunt many times congratulations

All I can say is WOW! What a great write-up! Out of my pay grade but reading, it was like I was right there with you. Thanks for sharing your experience. It gave me goosebumps and I've got seventeen years on you.

Thanks @Hogpatrol, I’m glad you enjoyed the story, it is my honor to share it. I dont fancy myself a writer, I just jot down my memories while they are fresh.

Fabulous narrative. Can't thank you enough for taking me along (ok I am a tad bitter and jealous!). I know you realize this, but you could not have taken a better Mountain Nyala had you tried for another lifetime or two. What an ancient old warrior! Such an Nyala and Lord Derby are my two African dream hunts. Have about five such quests in all, and the third is North American mountain goat (along with mid-Asian Ibex and a never ending hunt for the next buffalo). Will try that in BC in September on equally steep terrain. Am a bit nervous about it, and have ten years on you. Nevertheless, it has been on the list since I started reading Outdoor Life a very long time ago. My sincerest congratulations for achieving such a worthy goal.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
