I don’t know anything about ducks. The boys are wanting to try them this year.
I have a buddy that has hunted them some his boy wants to hunt them to.
I have a wet weather branch that opens to a little wet weather pond 800x 60 ruff size maybe 4-6 feet deep in the middle ( run of the branch)
And is arms 4 in deep around the edges when it’s wet.
It’s all most dry now.

I could not find wild rice seed but did find Japanese millet. They told me the jap millet would be ok in the water as long as the plant was higher than the water.
I have only realy planted brown top millet.

Does any one know if the jap will be ok to plant in water?
Will it be ok for duck ? Mostly wood duck and whistling duck with a very few mallard.
( that what I have seen on there over the years)
Any thing else recommended for planting?

It’s realy for a 11-12- and 8 year old to try and get a few.

I am going to throw out some Japanese millet next week on my swamp that’s just now mud flats being exposed. At this time of year that’s the best thing to plant according to my research. You can’t plant it in the water though from what I have seen. It can tolerate flood but the leaves need to be above water line. Needs to grow 2-3 weeks before water covers the base.

Jap millet should be planted on moist soil. If it's dry now or moist whatever the germination and number of days to grow 60?

But once it's planted you put water on it ya. Not fully covered but its base can be submerged. Your neck of the woods its definitely millets. Rice. Sorghums.

If you come through DFW, I would be happy to donate some decoys and gear to your boy’s project.

Thanks

I could not find rice locally and shipping was more than the rice if I ordered it.
I have grown sougram but didn’t know how much wet it could tolerate.

I was thinking of the jap millet all around the edge of the pond.
It’s at the end of the rd and I get run off from the next farm over and the county rd when we get a big rain
It can get a few feet deep quickly and drop back down just as quickly.
It’s clay and sandy loom around the edge for the wet weather pond the bottom of it is more white clay or floriden/ quick sand for no better explanation

That’s the kind / amount of run off

I actually have sougram out in all the fire brake
To help feed the bees and quail and turkeys

There is a seed company in Tampa that has rice, I planted 50# two years ago and the volunteer that has come up the last two years has come back really well.
I’ve also planted Japanese millet and it has done okay.
I’ll see if I can find the name of the seed company, or your local co-op should be able to get it for you on a regular delivery truck at a small cost.

Seed World in Odessa Florida.
Thinks

Our local co-op what destroyed by mikle and it’s never opened back.
Actually it got quite a few of the farm/ seed places I had to go to ga to get the jap millet

Sir, I will gladly take that 16 gauge off your hands. I was waiting for your Winchesters but I'm a sucker for a 16 ga.

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?
