DSC and SCI Shows 2021 - What are your feelings in the current environment?

booked my room for DSC. I hope it is happening. I really look forward to going for the first time. Driving in from Alabama. hope to see you all there

This is why this site is a godsend! The CES was canceled and a lot of shows in the shooting sports are being canceled. If I was an outfitter my specials would be going up on this site.

We are booked for DSC. Fingers crossed.

I am expecting to attend again this year. I will be treating it just like the year the flu outbreak was rampant during the show. And before anyone jumps all over me, I am not comparing Covid to the flu, just using the same precautions.
Was that when Phil looked like he was dying?

Looks like there may be some dissapointing news on the way for those hoping to attend SCI.

No surprises here. I expect the ax to fall on the DSC Convention anyday now.

SCI STATEMENT ON 2021 CONVENTION

After much contemplation and exhaustive effort, Safari Club International (SCI) has made the difficult decision to cancel its 2021 Hunters’ Convention. COVID-19-related restrictions imposed by the state of Nevada and city of Las Vegas to ensure a safe event environment during the ongoing pandemic has made it impossible to conduct a successful event for our members and exhibitors, or serve the greater good of wildlife conservation.

For 49 consecutive years SCI has conducted its annual convention, bringing together from around the world, hunters, exhibitors, conservation stakeholders, and generations of SCI members. This annual event celebrates hunter advocacy, raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for wildlife conservation, and enables the planning of hunts that further support conservation on every continent. It is one of the most anticipated gatherings of the year not only for the reasons above but also because it is the one week that our community can rely upon to renew friendships and reignite the fire that drives us all to carry on the traditions of hunting. We did not reach this decision lightly.

Throughout the turmoil of 2020 SCI has remained on watch. We have defended hunting in California and on Capitol Hill; we have supported wildlife conservation on the plains of Wyoming and plateaus of Africa; and we worked with legislators and the Trump Administration on the Great American Outdoor Act, history’s greatest outdoor legislative achievement. Working hand in hand with the Safari Club International Foundation (SCIF), we were able to raise a record amount of money for hunter education and conservation. Our work will proceed apace despite this unfortunate cancellation.

Despite our disappointment with this development, SCI will be there for our members and exhibitors in 2022 to reflect on all these accomplishments and celebrate them together. The 2022 Convention will take place in Las Vegas and will be a celebration of our hunting heritage and the perseverance we all needed to get through this, together.

2021 Convention Cancellation FAQ

WHY WAS CONVENTION CANCELLED?

COVID-19-related restrictions imposed by the state of Nevada and city of Las Vegas to ensure a safe event environment during the ongoing pandemic made it impossible to conduct a successful event.

WHY NOT POSTPONE OR RELOCATE CONVENTION?
Few locations have the necessary exhibition facilities, evening event facilities, hotel options, international airport and other logistical requirements to support our event within the timeframe it would need to take place.

WHEN/WHERE IS THE NEXT SCI HUNTERS CONVENTION?
The 50th Annual SCI Hunters Convention will be held at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 19-22, 2022.

Do these people think this virus is just going to “go away” at some point? New flash, it’s here, it isn’t going to disappear, has a very low mortality rate, a high recovery rate, and everyone is going to have to get over this insane over-reaction at some point and get on with life.

Well last evening before heading out to church I watched the DSC video. It stated We Will See You in Dallas! I was on cloud 9!
Then late in the evening SCI cancelled the convention. I was shocked and saddened as I had so much planned and was to be on a new committee etc for convention this year.
Democrat run cities and states will be asking the taxpayers to bail them out of their stupid decisions. The losses to Vegas for these cancelled conventions will be astronomical.

It is so unfortunate that the media is still perpetuating the fear and hysteria, and to what end? I was looking forward to helping out Jan from Impisi Safaris at a show in Scottsdale AZ in March again. Right now I can’t even drive down to the property I own in AZ! The fear is even worst here in Canada! I am sure that the Canadian government will endeavour to keep the border closed no matter what happens in the USA. Hope the madness ends soon!

We need events and social gatherings. The approach completely ignores other determinants of health. Terrible.

@Pheroze, I agree with you, but SCI had to face reality. With regulations around COVID-19 changing all the time, and with second or third waves panicking politicians, it's impossible to plan a huge event like this. Better they should cancel it some months in advance rather than wait until the last minute to see if it could go ahead.

Personally, I wanted to go this year (I rarely miss), but the idea of potentially quarantining for two weeks upon my return meant that it was an easy decision to stay home. I won't quarantine for two weeks for a three day trip to Vegas.

(I note, though, that Westjet announced a pilot project today which would see Canada provide rapid testing for arriving passengers who would only be required to quarantine for 2 days if the test returned negative.)

Unfortunately, we can't know if this will last, if it will work, or frankly anything else. Uncertainty is the enemy of planning, as usual.

I agree, the comment was really directed at the politicians.
