Delta flight 200 ATL-JNB

Thanks, CAustin. I didn't figure the miles I have currently would be enough, which is why I am considering the Delta AMX card, though then I would divert what I am running through by Bass Pro card today :).

Yep the Delta AMX could add up some points fast

I have had similar experiences as CAustin with Delta from Columbia, SC to ATL to JNB.
Both trips thru Columbia took less than five minutes to check rifles and bags, leaving CAE at 330 and arriving in ATL at 430; grab a quick meal and leave on 200 at 730. The last trip over the Delta agent asked if I was going to hunt Nyala. I told her that was my number one animal on that trip!!
We have payed a little more for Delta but have been satisfied with the service and the trip. The only hickup occurred when we arrived in ATL on return and the outbound to CAE left about 90 minutes after arrival from JNB. The rifle didn't make the flight, but the rifle arrived hand delivered at my house 4 hours after we did!! Job well done!

Anyone know what terminal it departs from?

@CAustin , if you don't mind my asking, how many miles/AMX points does it take to upgrade? I am beginning to plan my next trip in 2017. I have flown flight 200 both of my previous safaris in economy plus. I have thought of getting a Delta card just to try to upgrade to business class. I do have about 40,000 straight Delta miles accumulated.

I got tickets last March for my 2015 trip- AMX 280,000 miles for economy seat. They wouldn't let me use AMX points to upgrade to the Econ plus seats back then and wanted $200 cash for each seat to do so. Sounds like things might be changing

Just returned Wed from JNB to ATL on Delta. Loooonnnnngggg flight. Had 2 hour delay for some reason therefore landed in
Atlanta late. Was supposed to have 3 hr layover before next flight but missed it due to customs and security.

I just want everyone to know, if they didn't already, that my son and I were kept from our departing flight from Atlanta to JNB. We were unaware that he also needed a copy of his birth certificate. He was 17 when we departed and turned 18 while we were there. According to Delta, South Africa changed the requirement 3 months ago to have both passport and birth certificate for anyone under 18. When talking with Delta they said it was my responsibility to know the changes. If Delta let me know of the requirement when we initially boarded in Albany, NY I could have gotten his BC before we left on our first flight. Just venting a little.

Thanks @neckfred, a good reminder to everyone: WARNING: New South African Regulations for Traveling With Children:

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Seems like there is always something. Hope you had a good trip otherwise.

Custom the whole ticket peak season round trip was 400,000 miles this year! Last year it was 350,000. This was a straight miles purchase with my diamond status. The trouble with points/miles upgrades is that they have only so many per flight. When you try to pay a mixture of cash and miles this feature comes into play. Log into your Delta account and play around with dates first to see if any tickets are available! The more flexible you are with departure times and dates the more luck you will have combining cash and miles. Then start looking at cash miles options. If you have AMX points they convert to Sky Miles one to one! You will most likely need to transfer some AMX points over to Delta as I don't think 40,000 will be enough.

I looked at Delta business with Sky Pesos, not a seat available June, July or August and the was more then 300 days out.

Yep when I bought the ticket the first week of Feb there were very few seats left.

Man sorry to hear that you had troubles. That always puts a damper on the trip. I can say though that change was instituted well over a year ago though. I took the wife and kids in June of 15 and the change was instituted several months before that. I only knew about it because the travel agent I used notified my as soon as the change happened.
As far as Delta is concerned I have no idea. I flew SA airlines Dulles to Joburg with layover in Dakar. The SA staff were very pleasant but the "food" was atrocious. I payed extra for some "comfort upgrade" which was a joke. Our seats were no different than anyone else's. The plane over was nice and new. The plane back was old and a pos. The flight was packed and the tv's for my son and I's seats were broke so no movies. The layover in Dakar on the way back was 2 hours and the military there escorted some guy off the plane and gun point which made us all a bit nervous. They searched the hell out of the plane after that which made everyone even more nervous. Never found out what all the shinanagins were about but at least from outward appearance it seemed the guy was not a good fellow and they checked to make sure nothing was on the plane that shouldn't be so kudos for that. Next go round I don't know if I'll use SA airlines again or not. They were about $400/ticket cheaper than Delta at that time so IDK. I think much of it is luck of the draw and which specific crew and plane you get. Had to fly AA from DFW to Dulles and back which was the usual crappy service.

Philip: Terminal E, which is the newest and nicest terminal in ATL.

We've taken this 200/201 flight twice. The first time back in 2009 seemed to have better food than the last trip (April of 2015). First time we had the cheap seats and spent the extra $ in 2015 on the EC seats. We had "adjoining" isle seats (across from each other). Bulkhead isle seating is the only way to go!

Tracker my son had the bulkhead isle in Economy Comfort and he was very happy!

All I can say is the airlines are doing well this year, I see no discounts in prices:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

My flight this may is $600 less than last trip and is all the way to Zim, not just joberg.

I misspoke on my previous post. Flt 200 does go out of Terminal E, but it's Terminal F that is the newest and nicest. I travel thru ATL about 4-5 times a years, traveling between Lagos and the US. Most of the time it's in and out of Terminal F, but occaissionally Terminal E. The Delta lounge in F is quite nice and has good bathrooms with showers.

You are right 375 Ruger Fan, most of the time it's out of Terminal F. The lounge is nice, the food choice there could use some improvement though.

I never could understand why terminal F is the international terminal and flight 200 leaves from Terminal E? This is just my second trip through ATL. I leave tomorrow!
Regards,
Philip
