Trimming a bit off the bottom of the extractor claw might accomplish the same but gotta be careful. I'm not sure how easy it is to find replacement CZ extractors.

Can we see what the bolt face looks like?

I tried to find one about a year ago calling Wayne and Tim and they said they do not know of any. I fact Tim at Matrix told me if I needed one for a hunt he would loan me the one out of his gun, I was only looking to have one for a spare. I did talk to a gunsmith in So Africa to see if he could make one and he could. I need to find his info and see about one or two.

Can you take a photo of the cartridge just contacting the tip of the extractor so we can understand how much material would need to be removed.

I have already modified the extractor. I used a diamond needle file. It never pushes the round now and engages the rim.
Now a new problem when I rack the rifle like I would hunting in a buffalo hunt gone south, the last round pops out from the feed lips. It usually lands on the follower and can be pushed into the chamber.
So I cut masking tape and stuck it on the bevel of the follower only. Again 3 layers .012 thick did the trick. Now I can rack it as hard as I want and all is well.
So back to maybe clueing a thin piece .012 of stock on the bevel, or modify a new follower. I have springs and a 375 h&h M98 mauser follower coming in the mail.

I am not surprised, as the problem was caused by the feed lip/follower having material removed allowing the last cartridge pop up further.
Another way of modifying the follower is to weld (tig) some material on the side of the follower that will contact the magazine side wall. That should effectively do what you have done with tape by offsetting the follower.

Put the weld on the side where your thumb is. The weld must contact the magazine side wall to offset the follower. If it causes a problem then you can always grind the weld off. Minimal risk mod.

You know any one with a 3D printer? Get one made up that works. Then take it to someone with a CNC mill and get two three milled from the printed one. Sell the two you have spare covers your costs.

Mitch, did you send that rifle to Matrix or did previous owner tell you they had done the upgrades? I watched your video again and that gun cycles AWFULLY bad. On ALL rounds, not just the last one. It is hard for me to believe any competent gunsmith would send out a gun cycling that poorly. It's a liability issue. I have a video on you tube of me loading and cycling four rounds in my 98 Mauser 404. I'll see if I can find it on here. The bolt should close almost effortlessly. It looks to me like ALL rounds in your rifle are having trouble getting onto the bolt face. It's at the point where they make the final jump onto the bolt face where bolt is sticking when cycled forward. Remove your bolt. Now, attempt to push a cartridge onto the bolt face. The rim should slide up under the claw relatively easily. If it requires effort to get it started and snaps onto the bolt face, the extractor needs to be tuned. You should be able to tell where the carving in claw needs to be done. As I showed you in a previous post, with bolt removed the loaded cartridge should just BARELY stay on the bolt face. Another issue I had with my Mauser build was the extractor had way too much spring tension. I couldn't remove extractor from the bolt without prying it off with a screwdriver. They are designed to release with just finger pressure. Consequently, rims were not jumping onto the bolt face efficiently and cycling was rough. Snap-over was also impossible. Because 404 has gentle sloping shoulder and no belt, everything must be perfect with extractor and loading dies or the bolt will shove the cartridge up too far in the chamber instead of the claw snapping over on the rim of a round dropped in the chamber. And snap-over is important to me because my 404 is a dangerous game rifle with only four round capacity. In the unlikely event I put four bullets into a buffalo and he's still coming, I want to be able to throw a round in the open action and close it to fire without messing with magazine loading. I figured my extractor was probably not original equipment (Czech military rifle with extractor stamped with an anchor). I removed it and reshaped (bending) until the spring tension was reduced enough for me to be able to remove the extractor from bolt with just finger pressure (go online and look at video of Mauser bolt disassembly - all CRF employ the same extractor design and removed the same way). What a difference that adjustment made in cycling! Cartridges almost glide onto bolt face. I have test cycled thousands of rounds, both from the magazine and snap-over, with no issues (except RWS brass which has inconsistent rim thickness and won't snap-over consistently - 404 is finicky! ... and RWS brass is crap).

Amazing Matrix would do all the widow dressing stuff and send that rifle back to client cycling rough as a cob, especially considering it is well known that CZ large caliber rifles are notorious for feeding issues right out of the box. Perhaps they never loaded it up and tried cycling? I know others rave about Matrix upgrades but gotta say I am not impressed.

Did it always cycle that hard? Looking at Baxter's video and that rifle cycles about as effortlessly as I would expect from a custom gun maker.

One thing to note in that video is right at the very end you can see the two tracks of of the bullet path on the feed ramp into the chamber. They are symmetrical, centered, and it's worth noting we used a variety of bullets to test: 286 North Fork SS, 286 North Fork Cup Point, 286 Swift, 250 TSX Barnes, 250 Woodleigh RN, 286 Woodleigh SS, and 286 Nosler.

And that part of the video was even before the final tweaks - feeding is even better than shown. It can be done.

Wow! That is cycling slick as sour owl droppings. It's ovious you have skills. I will have to try to post again. This time cycling dummy rounds rapidly. It does look a little different.

Well, that is a considerable improvement over first video! It's surprising how much difference a minor tweaking can yield.

Just to resurrect this thread a little I have been trying to find pictures of the feed rails of a cz550 in 458 lott that has been modified by AHR. I found an old classified listing from this website with pictures. Maybe someone with an AHR lott would post better ones. You can see in this picture that it has much less of a ledge toward the back. I followed nhoro’s guide and ended up with rails that look very similar.

Rifle is in excellent condition. CZ Upgrade #1 done by AHR in 2008, which included 3 position safety, new trigger, straightened/filled bolt handle and Mr. Jacobson making it feed like a dream. Weighs 9 1/4 lbs., LOP 13 1/2"

I've had it since new and it's in good shape as you can see from the pictures. Small bit of wear on the barrel, pad and a minor ding in the stock, all called-out below.

Feeds everything very well I've ever put through it. I've got a video demonstrating it feeding a mixed mag of 350 gr,500 gr fmj and a 458 win mag dummy round, can provide...

I’m surprised these rifles didn’t work better from the factory.

I must of been very lucky on my cartridge swaps, lots of Mauser’s to .458Win & recently Ruger .270 to .458Win & Brno .270Win to .458Win.

I rebarreled, opened the bolt face & the Ruger worked straight away, with 3 down in factory mag but I adjusted extractor & will slick a little more.

The Brno ZKK 600 also worked but hard to get third round down as mag box still has the rib, but it also always feed, I will just do some polishing to slick it up.

Now had a brand new Ruger Alaskan in .416 Ruger & on a full magazine if you worked the bolt like you should, all or half the cartridges jumped up out of the magazine, factory Dangerous Game Rifle that should stay

On the magazine follower of Brno & CZs beening marked with caliber, I don’t believe that is 100% correct, I have 6 right now, caliber marking’s are only on the .223 Rem follower on top (maybe to warn against 222Rem being loaded) on the magazine box, yes caliber is marked.
