Sorry if I should not post here but a genuine question a friend of mine in the USA wants to sell his 416 Rigby - I am not selling it - he just needs a value on it

I have suggested $1895 - however would like your input - NOTE I AM NOT SELLING IT - just need to give him a figure - usual never went to Africa in time and now illness is taking care of what it does.Probably fired half a box of rounds !

your thoughts would be appreciated

Best bet would be to post some photos. Very hard to give a price unseen on a firearm. Understand you’re not the seller. But still would be helpful.

If as new, i would say much more expwnsive than that. To the best of my knowledge, it is no longer made. Big claw extractor. Go on Gun Broker and Guns International and Chatgpt and search for recent sales.

I see on GI $2800 for a rifle that "...has some dings." I would start there. I see guns with upgraded wood and bedded stocks and timney triggers for $3500. I'd probably start at $3200 and see if anyone bites. I think a "3" handle on the price though. I will be interested what the pros think Krish and guys that buy and sell alot of guns.

Understand he is an old friend I am just getting him an idea he is a l
local gun store put it on consignment - basic email is his limit !

appreciate the help everyone - If he was in Europe could value it !

I sold the same rifle just before I learned that they weren’t going to make them anymore for $1750, I paid $1300. I believe if I would have held on to it I probably could’ve gotten $2500.

As in all transactions, it depends on how fast they want it to move. Should move reasonably well at 2000-2500. I think more than that goes above where consumers want to be on these.

This assumes it is fully stock and in respectable condition.

I sold one not quite good as new condition for $2400 a couple of month ago. I sold fairly fast, and I was told I undervalued it then.

If it is the hogback stock, I would think 2200 would be about top end for a knowledgeable buyer. Perhaps 2500 for standard. Up to 2800 for a Safari classic with excellent wood (for a Safari classic, that is).

Yeah, I forgot they were actually called the Safari Classic “2”. I saw one in 404 J go for something like $4250.
I have seen the same sort of pricing. Hate it since they were sub $2k rifles and now unaffordable for average Joe me haha.

Bud’s Gun Shop and others closed them out for around 1200 bucks. I remember that after their final close out pricing they had 14 in stock from 375 H&H to 458 Lott in the non-hogback. I honestly thought about buying all of them to give to friends or sell at cost when they realized they missed the boat on reasonable CRF rifles. Wish I had, even if the ATF may have showed up at my door. :-)

They were sub $1k guns 15 years ago. I remember seeing a couple in .375 H&H and .416 Rigby at the local shop, new in the box, for like $8-900. I didn’t buy one (regrettably) but friends did. They seem like very solidly built rifles and they were a great value at one time. At current prices I would pass and just put my money towards a custom job. I will refrain from specifically commenting on the very idea of spending $5k on something made by Ruger.

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
