I've always been a fan of this shape, about a 4" blade, "slight" swell in the handle, with both ends of the handle formed to keep the hand from sliding off or onto the blade.

OK guys, couldn't resist starting the CAD work, and option A was starting to really pull ahead.

So this is a cleaned up version of Option A. The only real difference is I straightened the guard relative to the spine of the knife. I like it, but what do you think?

I know that this is a weird thing but I’d almost lean towards a blued guard/pins to match the majority of hunting rifles over brass, with either native wood or walnut
