Hi all,

I have a M98 Oberndorf I want to build into a plainsgame rifle. (Including Eland)I most want a European caliber, but 375 H & H are too long.

- What caliber would you selected in this rifle?
All work is being outsourced to specialist ...

If you want a European caliber, something that is good eland medicine, and that will fit in the magazine/action without having to do any modifications.. I think 9.3x62 is as large as you can go...

I'm in the process of re-barreling a 98 now myself.. I thought about 9.3x62.. but am going .35 Whelen instead... My requirements were similar to yours.. I wanted something that would work well on all plains game (as well as moose, bear, elk, bison).. and would fit in the 98 action/magazine without me having to modify it.. but I wanted an "American" caliber where it would be pretty easy to find ammo on the shelf at any Gander Mountain, Cabellas, Bass Pro Shop, etc... so I went with .35 Whelen..

Before recommending a cartridge, has the action already been modified regarding length or bolt face?

What cal is the action on presently?

I would go 7x57.

Here is the rifle, its currantly in 9x57 Mauser but the barrel are broken!
The action hasent been modified in any way. At least thats what I know.

Of what i can see it looks like a beautiful rifle.

Why do you want to re barrel?

I would shoot it as is.

Just saw this now. If the barrel is stuffed then make it a 9.3x62.

You have the wrong person. I have no idea what you are talking about..

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
