Best multitool?

In these pics I was loaned out to Eglin AFB to help dispose of old ordinance and Powder. In a couple days we blew thousands of pounds of powder and H.E.

If I remember correctly, we could only blow 5000 pounds of powder at a time. Most of it was the powder charges for battleship guns.

If you look close, I didn’t follow the age old rule of cut towards your chum and not your thumb.

I seriously doubt there’s anywhere left. That allow you to cook off 5000 pounds at a whack.

Even then, we got complaints from civilians Many miles away

While hunting in Africa I carry a Gerber MP600 needle nose on my ammo belt. Same style we were issued in the military. I’ve broken several over the years, but almost all of them have been while using the jaws to pry something. I also carry a winkler fixed blade on my ammo belt, and typically a folder of some sort like a hogue exemplar or an auto in my pocket.

In North America there’s a Gerber in each vehicle. I keep a Gerber in my hunting pack + a havalon in my kill kit, and EDC some type of folder like mentioned above on my person.

I ran global security for a company called EOD Technology for a few years… in the 2003-2005 time frame, as you can imagine, based on the name, the company was heavily involved in EOD, UXO, battlefield clean up, demining, etc in both Iraq and Afghanistan.. by 2006 the company had transitioned to doing far more security work in the two theaters than EOD related work… but it was still a major focal point for the company and large ordnance related contracts continued to be executed in both Iraq and Afghanistan for the Army Corps of Engineers, the Navy, and the UN…

The volume of ordnance we set off, especially in Southern Iraq was unreal… several thousand pounds a day, almost every single day, for years… I don’t think any single charge we set off was bigger then about 1000lbs though…

I can only imagine the “boom” from 5000lbs…

To clarify those 5000 pound charges were powder not contained. so it’s more of a big huge fireball. The HE or ordinance. nowhere near that amount of weight.

Setting that stuff off is too much fun!

Powder bags huh? You couldn't find a couple Lieutenants and a pack of matches to take care of that?

You need to learn how to delegate!

The ones I remember were more like this than the Supertool. The originals had the smaller cap crimper and didn't work as well on Military caps. You still used a butt-ton of electrical tape if you needed anything like waterproof.

A few years later Leatherman came out with slightly larger jaws that fit the Military caps and Det-cord. Back when I was an E-5 these were maybe 40 bucks? Now Supertool 300's go for $130 or more depending.

That one looks thin…..I would love if they made one that had nothing more than a plier, a knife blade, a Phillips screwdriver and a flat blade screwdriver

I have several multi tools. I keep one in each vehicle. I believe they’re Gerbers. I have a Gerber in my tackle box. My hunting kit has a Leatherman Surge.
They're usually not the perfect tool, but when you need it, they really come in handy.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
