Bad weather rifle

Troy, I have an easy answer for you, buy a T/C Encore. You can get it in any caliber you want, they are easy to clean if they get wetand they a a dream to use. I have an Encore in 35 Whelen and its my go to rifle.
@Art Lambart II
The only problem with you Whelen Art is that you haven't got dad to load any 250s to 2,700fps yet.
If you want a lot of fun go for a 310gn loaded to 2,400fps in your whelen, now that will light up your eyes.

There just to much money for me, I make just enough to get by as is. Coming up with $1000 is hard enough and probably sell a rifle to help fund this one. I have several good deer rifles I'm just tired of getting a blued gun wet. Tho even a ss would get cleaned and cared for the same as any other rifle. But be nice to not have to worry about it rusting that day.
@TroyF
I know the feeling I've sold a few rifles over time to fund other projects. By selling one or 2 that don't see as much use as they should has allowed me to have custom rifles built to my specs and caliber. Sure I have cut back to 3 main rifles but now they cover all my hunting needs and get used regularly. Fortunately I have been able to sell rifles for more than I paid and picked up bargin price 2nd hand rifles for rebuild.
For example my Whelen started life as a Stevens 200 aka Savage 110 in 270 for 350 dollars. With new barrel and fitting costing 800 dollars. I ended up with what I wanted for 1,100 dollars. Minus the one I sold for a 1,000 the build cost me 100 bucks.

@TroyF If you are interested I have a Browning x-bolt synthetic in 7-08 with a Swarovski Z3 3x9 I am considering selling. Let me know and we can pm about it.

If this is your wish list...Kimber Talkeetna in 375H&H. I know, I know...costs too much, not the caliber you want, not to mention that they are about as common as hen's teeth. But it is CRF, stainless, synthetic and WICKED cool.

Option 2 - Kimber Hunter that is in your price range. Option 3 - I'm with @WAB in stretching your dollar (saving for a bit longer) and getting the Kimber Mountain Ascent in 30-06. Although I did see one on GB in 280AI for $1600.

Good luck with it.

EDIT - Found this on GI in 300WM...

You forgot option 4 mate. Sell him your horrible little R8 at a fire sale price and buy a nice stainless titanium rifle in 35 Whelen for your self and be happy.

Just sent you a PM.

Troy F, about 25 years ago I had this same conundrum, I wanted an inexpensive rainy day deer rifle. I settled on a sporterized 1896 Swedish Mauser in 6.5 X 55. Being a "service" rifle in a cold, snowy country the barrel is parkerized. As the saying goes, "I've never looked back. Mine came with a Ramline stock. To this day it might still be the most accurate rifle I own. Cost back then was a whopping $200. You can find them for $ 300 -450 on Gunbroker. BTW I like this set-up so much that I've bought one for each of my Grandkids.

The very best extreme weather gun one can own is a Savage....it can get rained on....it can rust, it can sit out all night, it can freeze with water standing on every part of it, you can scratch the stock badly, you can even drop it off a horse or down a mountain and

my to go rifle for bad weather rifle is a 7mm08 LH remington 700, i have carried it on quite a few bad weather hunts and have taken alot of animals with it. its not CF, but have never had any problems with it feeding hundreds of cartiges hunting-target shootings.

I believe everyone has their own opinion on the difference between using a rifle as a tool...or treating it with neglect and abuse. I understand that accidents happen, firearms get dropped, horses fall, weather is bad sometimes. What you are describing sounds dangerously close to neglect and abuse...at least IMO.

Regardless of the brand of rifle, I hope it gets the proper care after such conditions are encountered. Because not doing so would be the very definition of neglect.

I used the PH’s Tikka T3 in .308 on a PG Safari in Africa a few years back and came home and bought one just like it. 2nd choice would be Kimber. I’ve got one of those too and it’s a shooter.

In reality though, an occasional rainstorm isn’t a big deal as long as the rifle doesn’t sit wet for very long.

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
