as l'm new here l thought l should put up something to show what l like in a rifle
this is an old whitworth m98 that l had a new shilen match grade barrel put on in 6.5x284 then l fitted a Richards Microfit stock on to make a long distance prone shooter, the Fallow doe in the photo was shot at 650 yards
its not for everyone but its part of what l am into and how l fill the freezer for the family

Very nice. No finer genius existed in the rifle designing industry than Paul Mauser. Here’s my own - An E.J Churchill in 7x57mm Mauser built in 1967 on a salvaged military surplus Yugoslavian Mauser 98 action , with the stripper clip ear guides ground down.

Agreed, our highland stalker is an outstanding rifle. (I have to say our as my wife has claimed both it and my 7x57!)

awesome
l really do have a passion for Mausers and am grateful for the gun porn LOL
l have a few more but they are not in what l would call a fine rifle although it has been on my mind to have a real classic built mauser rifle
this is a Parker hale in 6.5x55

Marksman, have you read any of Nathan Foster's works? He is a KIWI and a long distance hunter as well. Just in case you are unfamiliar with him and or his writings here is a link to his website.
https://www.ballisticstudies.com/ His "Practical Guide" series of books is a virtual plethora of information on guns, calibers, shooting techniques etc.

Am I mistaken or are most of these K98’s

Was M98 not only for the single and double square bridge Magnum calibers?

Set me right.

Cheers
Roan

I believe the M is simply short for Model. The current Mauser products are listed as M98 rifles however. Here is mine, a 7x57 I picked up fairly recently.
Most accurate 7mm cal rifle I have ever owned, amazingly consistent.

yes l am a fan of Nathan Foster, his books and techniques although l think he is not a big fan of the mauser 98 for an action to use for longer than normal distance shooting
here is another that l have built for the Fallow on a voere rifle in 6mm dasher

but l carried this one for many years as a lighter 243 rifle before the change in style
it was a favourite, very light and easy to shoot

@marksman
I know this will create a shitstorm but Enfield took the M98 and made it better and stronger as well as uglier with those sight ears but when they are ground off they also make great Mauser style rifles.

The are in the only 2 calibers you need for Oz. The laminated one is a 35 Whelen AI that would be good to run a 358 Norma mag reamer thru . Still basically brand new it has had less than 100 rounds thru it.
The walnut one in in a cartridge I designed. It's a 25/303 Epps Newton improved that launches a 100gn ttsx at 3,670fps and a 115gn nosler or 117grain SST at 3,360fps and groups less than an inch at 200 yards. Not to shabby out of a 108 year old action.
