A Custom built FN in 458 Win Mag - Awesome

458 Win Mag is my second most favorite caliber. (only surpassed by my 416 caliber rifles) This my 7th rifle in 458 Win Mag. I'm still trying to research the maker. If anyone has a suggestion, please reply. The action is properly glass bedded with double cross-bolts in the stock. The barrel has a full length Rib with an unusual rear sight - that is very functional. The action is drilled and tapped so I may add a scope in the future. The name John Howell that is stamped in stock was the owner. He was a big time Collector and many of his guns and collectables sold at an estate auction in 2022. This rifle was not in that auction. I will continue researching, and will try to remove the ugly muzzle brake. Field test to follow.

It looks like one of those Rem 798s! Zastava? GLWS May we please see a closeup of the receiver stamping?

It is an FN action. Beautiful rifle, but have no idea on maker.

I'm still researching.

UPDATE ***

We had a remarkable warm day today - 62 degrees. That's about 30 degrees above normal. So off to the range to test this little cannon. I fired 2 loads - a 350g fun load, and a 500g hunting load. I was able to remove the muzzle brake and I tested the 500g load with-and-without the brake. The recoil was very manageable and quit frankly there wasn't much difference in felt recoil with-and-without the brake. (sights will be adjusted before the next outing)

as always, your comments are most welcome

A beautiful working rifle, all the right components. I love the coarse checkering for sweaty hands.

Have you considered the Barnes Original 400 Grain SP... I have a somewhat reduced hunting load with that bullet that is very accurate. I tried a bunch of the newer light bullets and they just don't hold up.

Simply mahvelous.

Nice grouping.

I hope to work-up a "light load" that will do better.

65.0 grains H4895 with the Barnes Original 400 SP... one holing @ 100 yards. Lots of momentum for anything in NA... terrific bear load and pleasant to shoot.

I will try that load on the next trip to the range.

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
