.470 Capstick Blaser

That’s a good point. I should really worry about the OAL rather than the length of the barrel. I wouldn’t lose as much velocity with a 20”.
I wanted to suppress my .470 Cap, but it already had a front sight and barrel band, so I’ve nixed that project.

There's also a minimum legal OAL that you need to consider. Not sure what that is. I have a TC Contender carbine with a 21" threaded barrel that I use a suppressor on. It is similar to the R8 in that it doesn't have a bolt, so it's shorter than an equal barrel length on a bolt gun. It has a similar OAL as my CZ 527 300 blackout with a 16 1/4" barrel.

Bonus of being an SOT. Lol. Just file a Form 2 and barrels and OAL don’t matter any more. (Or a third hole in receiver...)

Now that’s an idea!!! I can SBR it and have it come to the end of the forearm. That would be a fire breathing, kaboomer.

I need a job that pays more money to fund these ideas y’all give me. Haha

470CAP SBR, that's a great idea.
If the bullet doesn't kill them, at least the powder burns will slow them down.

If I was going to get a 470 Capstick, I'd get one of the M70 Big 5 collection. I almost did.

dchamp, where can one purchase the Safari stock - I am assuming you imply steel insert - for under $2,000?
Thx
P
Keep an eye on Euro. I bought my Steel Safari receiver with kickstop for under $1,700. Its so heavy, the receiver alone weighs as much as my primary big game rifle with scope and all. But the .458 Lott is surprisingly comfortable to shoot.

It is absolutely correct that in 2018 and 2019 EuroOptics gave tremendous discounts on the then called R8 Professional Big Bore receiver (synthetic stock, steel receiver, 22 mm channel). The best I saw myself toward the end of 2019 was around $2,500.

The story was that EuroOptics had misread the market and had overstocked the steel receiver stocks in expectation of higher sales ... that did not materialize.

Let it be clear though, for the benefit of 2021 readers that these prices ended when the EuroOptics overstock ended, in the spring of 2020. The price has since reverted to $4,500 and apparently EuroOptics learned from their mistake and do not carry stock of it anymore, therefore one is unlikely to ever see the deep discount again...

Another source of confusion is that Blaser also sell the aluminum receiver stock with 22 mm channel under essentially the same name "Professional Safari"

I have a friend who though he had found a killer deal on a R8 Safari stock for $2,100, and thought the "Safari" designation automatically implied a steel receiver, only to realize after he bought, and after I suggested that he test his receiver with a magnet, that he had in fact bought an aluminum receiver stock... But he had shot it already and they would not take it back...

For the longest time EuroOptics did NOT indicate in the stock description whether it featured a steel receiver. I suspect that they now do because my friend was likely not the only one who was confused by the "Safari" designation...

Lots of good info in this thread...regarding the J Sip barrels, I just put an order in myself for a semi-weight in .425 Westley Richards. I guess I have a thing for the old British calibers. I picked up a die set a few years ago, just purchased 40 pieces of new brass from Qual-Cart, and placed an order at Huntington’s for four boxes of 410 grain woodleighs. This one will use a standard bolt head and a modified 300 RUM insert. I will be sending Justin some reloaded rounds for testing the feeding.

What is the weight of the gun?

I have the same rifle with the Blaser Selous 458 win mag barrel , the opened up barrel channel, and aluminum receiver, it weighs 8 lbs 11.3 ozs (no bullets). Add the Leupold VX6 1-6 with the older all steel mounts and it weighs 9 lbs 11.3 ozs. The barrel alone weighs 3 lbs 11.4 ozs. I will not be going to Africa (unless I win the lottery), and I have no desire to shoot a full power 500 gr pill of any flavor. This setup is meant to be a sort of hot rodded 45-70 meant for 350 and 400 gr bullets. I have done a few tweeks to the rifle. I found that with the not so forgiveing 1/2 inch recoil pad removed it was a perfect fit. So I sent the stock to limbsaver, they cut off 1", reinstalled the the stock insert, and put on a 1" grind to fit recoil pad. Now I have a perfect 14" LOP instead of 14 1/2". I also replaced the steel scope rings with the Leupold QR low rings since they sit lower than the standard Blaser low rings. The post does have to be trimmed/shortened and threaded to make this work.

Now I am hoping some of you gentlemen can help me reach Justin Sipp. In July I put a 1K down payment on a 30-06 fluted barrel, with NECG sights, and a 1 in10 twist, that he had in stock.
The plan was for him to do a load work up with the 200 gr Federal Terminal Ascent Bullet. He let me know the load workup was complete at the end of September for the Long Range Accubond (not what I wanted) since he could not find the Terminal Ascent due to the latest shortages. I told him I would be willing to wait a little longer, and asked him if he would be willing to see if he could come up with the Terminal Ascent bullet, and that I would contact him in December. Well since December no one answers the phone, you are not able to leave a message, he has not responded to emails, I even sent a hand written letter. My tone has always been more than kind, with several options; give me an update, I will pay the balance and ship the barrel, maybe even get another barrel in its place if there is an issue, or return my 1K. The Better Business Bureu is currently looking into this. So if any of you have contact information, other than what is on his web site so that I can reach him, I would greatly appreciate it. Or if you even speak to him, have him give me a call. I am probably his only customer in New Mexico that he is doing a 30-06 load work up for.
Thanks, Oliver

My mistake, the rifle weight with out the scope and mount is 8 lbs 5.2 ozs

I ordered a barrel from him a few weeks ago. He Justin was very responsive and great to deal with.

1st off, I am sorry if I hijacked this post. But, hearing of folks on this particular post having recently ordered from Justin surprised me. He was also very responsive to me, and great to deal with at the beginning of starting my order, but since December it was like he dropped off the map (no response/updates/contact by mail, email, or phone). The barrel was in stock so I do not know what the problem is. I honestly thought he shut down his business until I read this post. So far the BBB has reached out to him several times and he has not responded.

Got the .470 Capstick barrel in, scoped, the receiver opened up to accept barrel.... now to get some loads done and shoot it.

I have a 470 Capstick in a Big 5 Win M-70 Safari Classic. Wow, what a gun! I have only 5 rounds of 470 Capstick which cost about $100. Hard to get and harder to replace. I don't know if I'll ever shoot it. I have 375's and 458's if I need a lesson in recoil. But, congratulations on your excellent custom 470 Capstick. I can only imagine a cape buffalo hunt with that rifle. Let us know how it goes.
