416 Taylor build

Now going with the CZ550 medium action, Douglas #5 barrel contour, 24", B&C stock
Matrix Gunsmithing will be the gunmaker.
If anyone is interested in riding along, Guns International has two CZ550 Medium actioned rifles for sale in 7mm remmag, which is a perfect match for the 416 Taylor!
FYI, here is comparison of the CZ550 magnum and medium actions:

Looks like the medium action will make a nice, trim DGR although will add weight.
What’s the magazine capacity with the medium? I can get 5 down with my .458WM and Lott and 4 down with my .416 Rigby in the magnum action. Thanks!

I am hoping 3 down reliably. Surprisingly, the CZ 458 winmag follower fits within the medium mag box, so can get rid of the plastic one.
Will print up 4 cartridges next week with the Hornady dgx to at least see how many fit.
If only 2, I might lose interest.
BTW, my GMA action (with John’s so called “pregnant” floorplate) setup for 416 Rigby, holds 5 down reliably:)
Steve

CZUSA has the medium action holding 3-7mm remmag. I should note Matrix has a drop floorplate
For the 550 magnum and is easy to morph to fit the
Medium action.
And I think am on the right track:) per CZUSA below.

All the 416 Taylor threads got me worked up and my brain moving.
thinking of cost effective rifle (well, maybe not:) but with some upgrades.
Starting with Ruger Hawkeye in 416 Ruger, then Douglas barrel of appropriate contour matched to the Ruger barrel channel, Alaskan Arms drop floorplate and QD 30mm rings, Manson std reamer (matches Norma brass and Redding die), quarter rib, banded sling and banded front sight, weight added for balance and weight to get to ~10lbs.
Anyhow, thought folks here might be interested in this and maybe with 3 or so builds, get better pricing on the components. Let me know the interest. Thanks
Steve
I understood that the 416 Taylor is a necked down 458win Mag. Ellwood Epps in Ontario Canada has a pre 64 Model 70 in 416 Taylor for what would be a very reasonable price.
I have a Ruger MKII African in 416 Ruger and have been lucky enough to get enough brass to last me for a bit. I rather like it after doing a lot of work on it.

For reference, Saami spec from 2011
416 Taylor Magnum Pressure limits:

MAP – CUP Not Est. 65,000 psi
MPLM – CUP Not Est. 66,600 psi
MPSM - CUP Not Est. 69,100 psi
Velocity
400 grain – 2,370 fps

It has neen reported that Taylor Swift is pregnant, so does that make the 416 Taylor Swift a Double Rifle Cartridge?

I am a Taylor fan for sure… But if you have a 416 Ruger already, why make it a Taylor?? The ruger action will definitely work, but I don’t see a lot of benefit except that you get to build a cool custom gun… which is all right in my book… So I say build away!! And keep us updated :D Beers:
Precisely what i was going to say, and i have a Chatfield-Taylor! (Also much easier to get factory ammo in-country, when say your fav little box of handloaded goodies or expensive custom handloads goes missing in Namibia at the WDK Airport!!) LOL No performance advantage over any of the 416s. 400 gr @ 2,450 fps. They are virtually the same, although the RCM has a tad more case capacity...the gain in the larger cases is a lengthened pressure curve that reduces felt recoil. This can be offset in a properly designed gun (heft.) If you don't handload, the 2,350 fps factory rounds aren't too bad to shoot (just like the RCM.) A lot of 458 Win Mags are re-barreled to 416 Chatfield-Taylor. I get that, as I have one (and the performance improvement is dramatic-especially on shots or follow-ups closer to 100 yds.) 'Developed a load that shot 2,550 in the Taylor...and it was painful, so 'went back to 2,450 which of course is ideal. GL with the (pick your fav caliber) WSM to RSAUM conversion!! (In .30, there's actually a distinct performance advantage over the smaller RCM case. 'Not a big fan of ad campaigns spinning wheel reinventions like the RCM.)

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
