Hello,
I found about 150 Hornady 225 grain bullets and am looking for some recipes. The bullet was discontinued some time ago and I cannot find data. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Randy

Start at the low end of the Speer data for 235 and work your way up with your chosen powder, looking for pressure signs in your rifle. Won't have any problems

That has been my temptation as well. I've been shooting 235 Hot Cors for practice and have tons of data on that bullet. Just thought I'd ask the question before burning what has become precious powder and even more precious, primers.

Thanks @Albert GRANT

Unfortunately it is likely the only option now, unless someone has an old loading book to pull data from. You will likely end up over the max shown for the 235gr before seeing pressure since yours is 10gr lighter (If you want to be pushing them that hard, which I probably wouldn't)

Plinking and varmits...

This is from the 8th Edition of the Hornady manual.

I have my Dad's old 1967 Version one of the Hornady loading manual and it only lists 270 and 300 gr.

Guess I should have said "older" or "slightly old" ? I don't believe it's in any of the last couple editions- Not sure if the data shown above in the 8th edition was the last or not. I've never been one for keeping old versions of stuff around, but should have guessed many would probably still have the data.

I had looked into several older manuals and some online resources but was unable to find anything specific for the 225 grain pill. The information provided will get me onto the bench and will have a few test loads ready soon.
I have a good load worked for the 235 grain Hotcor with N540. I was going to start there but wanted to save that powder for other applications. The H4895 data is good and I can burn that older can on plinking and varmints. I'm hoping for a little jack rabbit run within the week.

This was a post from elsewhere, so use discretion with this.

Here is what Hornady finally sent me:
The #3706 Hornady .375 cal. .375" dia. 225 gr. Spire SP bullet is designed for lighter game such as deer. I am taking the following .375 H&H Magnum 225 gr. SP load data from the latest 5th edition HORNADY HANDBOOK OF CARTRIDGE RELOADING Vol. I of the 2 volume set.

VELOCITY (fps)
Powder 2500 2600 2700 2800
Viht N-140 66.7 grs. 69.2 grs. 71.8 grs. 74.3 grs. MAXIMUM
IMR-4064 64.4 grs. 67.2 grs. 70.0 grs. 72.8 grs. MAXIMUM
H-4895 64.3 grs. 67.8 grs. 71.3 grs. 74.8 grs. MAXIMUM
RL-15 67.6 grs. 69.9 grs. 72.2 grs. 74.5 grs. MAXIMUM

Gee I wish I had those to go in my couple old 375Ex 2 1/2in rifles, not sure they'd work in the Styer but be great in the Lee Speeds !

What have you been using for powder with the 235's??

@375er I have been using N540

I think that the 8th edition Hornady data is more useful than the old Speer data.

I find that when I shoot short, light bullets for caliber that they usually perform best when loaded to the same velocity as a standard load for that cartridge.
So if 375 H&H is usually running around 2500-2600 fps with its normal 300 - 270 gr bulllets then target that same velocity with the 225s. I suspect you'll be happy with about 65 grains of H4895.

Pushing a short, light bullet super fast usually doesn't work out.

You might even try a little less than starting loads with the H4895 but make sure you use magnum primers so you get good ignition.
