21 days with Mark Sullivan

The only time I might like the Ph’s help
IT'S ALL FUN AND GAMES TILL SOMEONE GETS THEIR EYE POKED OUT. I DON'T WANT MY PH CHOOTIN MY GAME BUT IN THAT VIDEO I'LL TAKE MARK SIX DAYS A WEEK AND TWICE ON SUNDAY.

That was rough. Sadly it didn’t seem like the client ever took much notice of his own poor shooting.

I was actually surprised when he shot his .500 NE at the target in the beginning where he almost missed the target with his first shot high (or missed the target completely) and the second shot was low.

Haven't watched the video and won't. Don't see any point in giving it view stats when all I'm hearing is thumbs down.

I do not hold with PH rapid fire immediately after client shoots. Unless the buff is shot in the brain, it's not going down with one shot. Any PH certified to guide buffalo knows when one has been properly hit (i.e. in front shoulder). Give it time to die. If it decides to charge, then everyone shoots till it falls over. I have seen plenty of videos where client places a bad shot, sometimes many of them, but PH still gives him a chance to finish the job.

Sullivan is a typical influencer. If he wasn't full of himself, he wouldn't be successful. Some (most?) people are attracted to that ... for various reasons. Which is also an important component to an influencer's success. I am probably the only person on this forum who would pass up a hunt with Ruark, Hemingway, or Capstick. All successful influencers who could spin a great yarn in their writing (no internet media in their day). But in real life they were also fatheads who could be awful to be around, especially when drunk. I think today they wouldn't stand a chance with internet media.
@Ontario Hunter - you need Never worry about being in a position to Turn Down a hunt with Ruark/Hemingway/Capstick or Sullivan…an invasion from Mars is more likely

Well ,im afraid ,i disagree with most of the commentaries .The client training with that double was non existant you can notice how it makes circles and how it jumps almost out of his hands ,the shots were very bad and the buffalo needs to be terminated or you will loose it.So i justified Mark ,futhermore im pretty sure that the client authorized him to shoot.

Don't know Sullivan but a good friend hunted with him and was very pleased - Cal Pappas (deceased) and a double rifle guru. He said Sullivan was a good hunter and gentleman. Most turn their nose up at him but he is an entertainer. I find him more tolerable than Kamala Harris or any democrat out there.

Oh boy, here we go again, I wonder how many pages this will go this time ?

Why is his production company still posting videos on hunting Tanzania, I thought he was banned from and deported from Tanzania about 4-5 years ago, lost his PH license everywhere but Namibia ?
My buddy John had to fly into Tunduru Airstrip and drive by his old camp and said the camp was abandoned and in shambles/ ruins.

Yep, Harris was such a dud entertainer. What was her reality show that bombed? "The Apprentice?" Wait ... that was someone else. :D :D

I was a bit confused with only baiting one tree. I was hoping for an end of safari line up to see everything he took. It looked like a few hunts were missing from the video from the discussions they had?
Dude….Mark Sullivan, much like our dear departed Chuck Norris, need only bait one tree…
The Leopard will simply kill itself rather than live in constant fear of them

Another troll post. It has to be. Anyone that think 14 seasons with "The Don" as host is a bomb is just trolling.

The PH in that video is Dean Kendall and notice he handled it like a gentleman. Not bragging about what he did but complimenting his client for his actions.

I’m pretty sure Mark Sullivan would have destroyed that footage and made client sign an NDA rather than let the footage get out.

Wow! You are correct. Blows me away what classifies as entertainment in the 21st century. I tried to watch one episode and it was gold medal dumb. Not unlike just about all reality shows ( = zero reality). Don't think I lasted twenty minutes. Wonder how much it cost him to keep it on the air. I think the comparison to Sullivan Productions is valid.

Very

valid questions I didn’t think about. I remember selby in chapter 14 of horn of hunter telling ruarke he thought he’d help out and break the buffs back as ruarke got flattened when he pulled both triggers.
I know Craig boddington and Joseph von Benedict talked about brown bear guides firing an anchoring shot in a bear if your first one didn’t drop him. Some writers hunting camp they said every guide there except 1 said they would do that.
I know the guide what’s to be safe in all situations however I also understand us hunters wanting the animal to actually have been killed by said hunter.
I’m a brown bear guide on the Alaska Peninsula and am leaving for camp in two days. I usually only shoot at a bear if the client has hit it and the bear is headed into the alders. Nobody wants to track a wounded bear in thick alders. Brown bears react to being shot much like an African lion - spinning around, biting at the wound and then looking around for the animal or human that caused the injury. Some hunters get excited after the first shot and short-stroke or jam their rifle and I have to shoot. If the bear is in the open and the hunter is competent, I don’t shoot.

This year, I will be guiding two competent hunters who have hunted with me in the past for goat, deer and pronghorn. The first guy just told me that he wants me to shoot immediately after he shoots. I told him I will let him do the shooting and only shoot if needed. He disagreed and restated that he wants me to immediately shoot after he shoots. He said he doesn’t want to ever have to follow-up a wounded bear. I plan to discuss it with him some more once we are together. If the bear is in the open, I still don’t think I will shoot. Hopefully he anchors the bear and it’s a moot point. The second guy is fine with following my recommendation that I won’t shoot unless the bear is getting away and/or headed into the alders. Most hunters have a bit different view about such things.

As for MS and the hunter in the video, we don’t know what they agreed to beforehand. I’m guessing the hunter wanted MS to shoot if the animal was wounded and getting away or MS just did what MS does? MS wasn’t wasting any time, that’s for sure. Frankly, I’ve seen worse behavior from him on other videos.

What’s amazing on that footage is his first shot hits it between boss and eyes. Must have missed the brain by fractions of an inch. The recent Safari Classics video podcast interviewed Dean and the hunter about it. 470 round in the head and the buff barely slowed down.
