South African 10 Day Elephant Bull Hunt with Dave Freeburn Safaris

Good Day AH Community,

The hunt will take place on a 50,000 acre Big Five Private Reserve in Limpopo Province of South Africa. Population of Elephants exceeds 130 Elephants. We will be in pursuit of a bull in the 20 – 30 pound range. If we find bigger then no extra charge. We e did manage to take a single tusk bull last year of 42 pounds. An added experience is that the reserve is home to both Black and White Rhino and to see these majestic animals still with their horns on is truly a once in a life time experience. The hunt must take place in 2021. The reserve is one of the few reserves with an active Elephant management plan in SA. Currently we have 82 Elephants to too many for the size of the reserve. The drastic need to manage and remove a vast majority of these elephants is desperately needed before the preserve is totally destroyed. Much needed funding from this hunt will be directly put back into the reserve.

The very competitively all-inclusive price is as follows:

USD $22,900 or EUR 20,150 (includes permits if exporting to legal country)

Pay now in Full Option: USD$20,300 or EUR 18,150 to take advantage of exchange rates.

Is it exportable?
If you read carefully it does say the price "includes permits if exporting to legal country."

Right above the red letter pay it now pricing.

I should have been more precise. "exportable to a legal country" doesn't really say much. Is it exportable to the USA?

Not to answer for the OP, but elephants from RSA are importable, BUT the US is on a "case by case" basis which means it is importable , unless they find a reason not to, or there is a full moon that month, or Covid-19 makes a backlog, or we have a change in leadership in Nov, or any other reason a bureaucrat can come up with until you force them to do their job with a legal finding...

Is it exportable?

Hi Tanks

Yes it is exportable out of SA, just not to USA under current Fish and Wildlife regulations.

Regards
Dave

Correct to all of the above.

If it's Exportable, I don't see why it isn't Exportable to any country.

Now you may need to be concerned whether it's "Importable". Exportable is decided in the country it is currently in. Importable is to to the country you wish to import it into.

As I understand it, all African elephants are theoretically importable (at least if they are Exportable). However USFWS has gone back to a case by case basis and the hunting of the elephant must be proven to have been beneficial to the conservation of the species. At least in the area the animal in question was taken.

But then as Trump had tweeted how barbaric elephant hunting is and that he would not allow it. (Apparently he is Emporer when it comes to laws like this) So as I see it, USFWS is in a tight spot. Their own rules say they need to look at each case and determine whether it meets the guidelines to be imported and then must issue the permit. However their boss says don't do it. Of course that means they would need to break their own rules, essentially break the law. So as I understand it, they are leaving elephant import applications lay in a pile basically collecting dust. They are just not finding time to get to them. Speculation is that after the election Trump will quietly tell them to proceed.

However an elephant from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, even Tanzania is now theoretically just as importable as elephants from South Africa and Namibia. I'm not sure about Mozambique and I don't think there is much hope getting a forest elephant in from Central or Western Africa.

So the way the add reads, this most certainly should be an importable elephant. However no more so than one from the right area with proper documentation from Zimbabwe.

I am afraid too many Outfitters are sugar coating the situation and selling very high priced hunts in Botswana and letting the hunters assume they are going to get them imported. They should, but I don't see any guarantees and no certain time table.

If you want to participate in a South African elephant hunt because you want to hunt one in South Africa. This is one hell of a deal and I think you should book it! It should ultimately be awarded import documents. Just go into it with the mindset you will get the best people you can working on it, be darned sure ahead of time that documents will be done properly and realize there is a chance it may not happen. Have some nice replica tusks made and save what you want at a reputable taxidermist in South Africa.

Pretty sure my hunt with Bossie isn't going to happen due to the virus, but probably won't be officially notified until July or August since my departure date is about 13 Sep.

At the end of the day, it's still a bull elephant hunt, importable or not. Great experience for not a lot of money in an area where they are overpopulated. Good luck to whoever goes!

Rational peope would likely think that if any elephant is importable into the US, this one should be;)

But you are totally correct in implying that the real trophy is the experience of hunting a bull elephant. :)

CM,
That is nice work! I would like that cartridge slide for 50-110 Win. I would also use it for 500 S&W. Six cartridge loops would be perfect for me.

I will send you payment immediately.

Thank you,
