I guess the rest of the state department has not gotten the memo yet. Since gaining their independence from GB, we have recognized the autonomy of Hong Kong against the protestations of China. China has used this pandemic to distract from their attempt to end the sovereignty of Hong Kong, and for some unknown reason, the United States is stepping out of the way and letting them. Make no mistake, we are at war with China. They will see this weakness on our part as permission for them to continue to expand their influence and undermine democratic and capitalist principles.

Not if they lose the HK special trading allowance, which is likely and will be quite a blow to China.

Dont know why you think Pompeo's comments are stepping out of the way. I believe they are quite the opposite.

Understand where you're coming from. Probably disagree on conclusions however.

Since Nixon, America has bent over backwards (kowtow:D) to work with China. Trump had a lot on his plate early but started setting the stage in his first year to completely change America's relationship with China.

It probably doesn't matter much what the rest of the State Department thinks. Pompeo made a statement and it seems the Trump administration will be taking action. No, we won't physically go to Hong Kong to fight China. Trump has done everything he can to extricate America from endless wars. Trump does have options however. Trump focuses on financial pain. What kind of financial pain that will be, we will get to see shortly it seems. If Trump removes China's ability to participate in the SWIFT system, then China is truly screwed. China currently holds over $1 trillion of America's debt. As penalty for the Wuhan virus, don't be surprised if Trump erases that debt as damages.

China/CCP is walking a tightrope with many internal and external problems. America will be turning up the heat. Look for the CCP to have a multitude of problems over the next few years.

Just finished reading some articles on Bloomberg and WaPo about this (yeah yeah leave me alone) and I think you are right. I retract what I said. It felt out of character for the Trump Admin which is why I was so unsettled when I first read it.

Just imagine how upset the CCP would be if the Chinese had a 2nd Amendment, or even a Constitution for that matter.

I JUST TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE NUMBERS MENTIONED BY RAMAPHOSA A WHILE BACK....
Total RSA Soldiers = 73,180 members + 2,820 already deployed
= A Total of 76 000 SOLDIERS THAT WERE DEPLOYED.....
[Not including the top heavy higher ranks and their huge civilian auxiliary personnel and 9675 civilian, support and technical staff...]

The SA National Defence Force (SANDF) personnel has 219 generals and admirals heading up the country’s military.
The senior staff complement is made up of one general – SANDF Chief General Solly Shoke – eight lieutenant generals/vice admirals, 40 major generals and 170 brigadier generals.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AFP) – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa plans to deploy more than 73,000 extra troops to help implement a nationwide coronavirus lockdown, the defense minister said.

The country is four weeks into a strict police and military-enforced shutdown during which jogging, dog-walking and the sale of alcohol have been banned until the end of April.

Security forces have struggled to keep people indoors – particularly in overcrowded townships – and the police have been grappling with illegal alcohol sales, sometimes involving its own men.

In a letter to parliament tweeted by an opposition party leader, Ramaphosa announced his decision to deploy an additional 73,180 members of the South African National Defence Force until June 26.

The operation is expected to cost around 4.5 billion rand ($2.4 million), said the letter, which was dated Tuesday, April 21.

Those deployed comprise regular, reserve and auxiliary personnel.

In March, 2,820 soldiers were mobilised for the lockdown.

Where ...?
How....?
Who defended the bases ect?

[It has repeatedly been reported the high number of medically unfit to be deployed 'soldiers' due to Aids, TB , Obesity ,Drugs etc not to mention huge AWOL and undisciplined number of members....
To show 1000-2000 uniforms dancing undisciplined in the streets for TV news as a show of 'force' a couple of times does not convince of anything ....[except negative tactical thoughts...]

Somehow 1+1 doesn't equal 2...[??]

I'd expect more from our (USA) politicians. There was this fellow that was causing sufficient problem for the victim to call the police. On arriving at the scene it is clear that the fellow was committing a crime and the officers' duty was to arrest him. Evidently the fellow was not obliged to follow directions and go peacefully and a scuffle ensued. the fellow ends up on the ground with an officer holding him down with the officers knee on the back of the fellows neck. the fellow complaint that he cannot breath. which would indicate some issue other than the officers knee since if the officers knee was preventing the fellow from breathing, the fellow would not have been able to talk. At some point it is determined that the fellow is no longer breathing and finally that he is pronounced dead. As a result of the situation an autopsy was done and it was determined that the fellow died of problems related to high blood pressure and other health problems but that his death was not caused by the officers knee.

Since we are in the age of phone cameras, the scene involving the last few minutes of the situation is recorded. Taken out of context and with a bias for police brutality, the audience is led to the conclusion that the fellow would be alive except for the officers knee. the anarchists then fire up the lemmings and cause nationwide problems.

If the entire scene had been recorded so that the situation would have had a resemblance of context it would likely be clear that 1. the fellow had escalated the problem. 2. the level of force by the officers was reasonable. &3. the autopsy showed that the death was due to the excited level of the fellow exceeding the ability of his body to function.

In an unbiased world the incident would have not be out of the ordinary. Unfortunately the world is run by political activists and their lemmings. So the partial recording is displayed on the internet and all the good people object and condemn the action. The officers employment is terminated and he is charged with murder. this is not enough for the activists so they incite their lemmings to riot and several cities are damaged. At least one office has been murdered and several injured.

I can understand the power trip that the activists are on and their inability to let any possible situation pass where they perceive a chance to build their power but I am disappointed in our elected officials that are unable to wait for all of the information to be learned about the situation before they take sides and become part of a jury and conviction for a trial that has not taken place except on the TV screen. It is eerily similar to the opposite of the OJ situation.

I've seen protests like this in other countries and the protesters were laid out with water cannons mounted on armored vehicles and they quickly gave it up. Unfortunately for innocent businesses and citizens, the liberal mayors and governors didn't have the cohones to do anything but pontificate.

The protests have been orchestrated from behind the scenes. It has a George Soros stink to it, as well as the ANTIFA vermin. 80 percent of the protesters that have been arrested, are from somewhere else.

The low IQ Leftist fleebe's have wasted no time in trying to pin this on Trump.

Another prime example of failed Democrat leadership.

Your remarks are ridiculous about the tragic death of this man.

This man's death is the result of his OWN actions. Do what the police tell you. Do NOT RESIST ARREST! It's that simple.

I read the arrest scenario here:

https://www.mercurynews.com/why-george-floyd-was-arrested-and-what-happened-in-the-minutes-following

I hope this case allows for careful review of issues that we see in use of force cases. But also, community policing protocols. A lot of progress has been made in a lot of jurisdictions to avoid unnecessary harm, both to police and accused. We are witnessing some incredible use of those newer techniques with the police chief in Altlanta and elsewhere - contrast that to the NY officers driving their car into protestors. Is this a race or policing issue? Both? Time will tell. But, right now we have a man dead for trying to use a counterfeit $20 to buy smokes. That cannot be a success from a policing point of view.

I liken it to this: One of my hunting buddies is a retired senior RCMP officer. He did most of his career in remote areas where backup was more a theory than a practicality. We have had long chats about the different approach to arrest when you are the lone white policeman in a largely indigenous community vs in downtown cities. You just treat people differently or you cannot get your job done.

As harsh as the reality is to hear, the assessment you are calling ridiculous is accurate. The autopsy shows mood altering substances in combination with underlying pre-existing heart disease exacerbated by the struggle likely caused this man's death. Not asphyxiation as is being asserted.. Furthermore, the automatic assumption that this was racially motivated has not been established. The possibility that this police officer was just an overly aggressive cop that may or may not have used excessive force on everyone he has arrested has not even been considered. Yet, these facts are lost on a mob mentality by those eager to use any excuse to justify a violent, criminal agenda. Regardless of the police officer's intent or the direct cause of death, the fact remains that this man would likely still be alive today if he was not in the process of committing a crime in the first place.
