I JUST TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE NUMBERS MENTIONED BY RAMAPHOSA A WHILE BACK....
Total RSA Soldiers = 73,180 members + 2,820 already deployed
= A Total of 76 000 SOLDIERS THAT WERE DEPLOYED.....
[Not including the top heavy higher ranks and their huge civilian auxiliary personnel and 9675 civilian, support and technical staff...]
The SA National Defence Force (SANDF) personnel has 219 generals and admirals heading up the country’s military.
The senior staff complement is made up of one general – SANDF Chief General Solly Shoke – eight lieutenant generals/vice admirals, 40 major generals and 170 brigadier generals.
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AFP) – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa plans to deploy more than 73,000 extra troops to help implement a nationwide coronavirus lockdown, the defense minister said.
The country is four weeks into a strict police and military-enforced shutdown during which jogging, dog-walking and the sale of alcohol have been banned until the end of April.
Security forces have struggled to keep people indoors – particularly in overcrowded townships – and the police have been grappling with illegal alcohol sales, sometimes involving its own men.
In a letter to parliament tweeted by an opposition party leader, Ramaphosa announced his decision to deploy an additional 73,180 members of the South African National Defence Force until June 26.
The operation is expected to cost around 4.5 billion rand ($2.4 million), said the letter, which was dated Tuesday, April 21.
Those deployed comprise regular, reserve and auxiliary personnel.
In March, 2,820 soldiers were mobilised for the lockdown.
Where ...?
How....?
Who defended the bases ect?
[It has repeatedly been reported the high number of medically unfit to be deployed 'soldiers' due to Aids, TB , Obesity ,Drugs etc not to mention huge AWOL and undisciplined number of members....
To show 1000-2000 uniforms dancing undisciplined in the streets for TV news as a show of 'force' a couple of times does not convince of anything ....[except negative tactical thoughts...]
Somehow 1+1 doesn't equal 2...[??]
