I bought a 30-06 it is a P/H Safari 98 commercial and I ask the learned guru`s will it be long enough to handle the 91.44 OAL length of the 10.3 x 68?

That's 3.6"

Your P/H would take some work to make it function that long, much like taking a 98 out to 375 or 404. It's possible, but it won't likely be cheap to be done right.

You'd be better off with a Winchester 70 Classic. All long action post-64 actions are 3.6" they use a bolt stop and magazine block for 3.4" cartridges. You can either modify the bolt stop or buy a new one (about 25 bucks) and hunt down a magazine box for a 375/416, or possibly a generic win mag magazine and remove the block.

Yes^ An action that is already long enough for 3.6 is much better (easier)... like the Win 70 standard long. The ejector and bolt stop mods on a Win 70 long action are really quite easy. Even a standard Win 70 magazine box with a spacer can be modified for the longer length without much trouble. I DIY'd one just like that a few years ago. Removed the spacer and silver soldered the ends back together with a simple lap joint. The only additional modification I did for best feed of the longer cartridge was to replace the standard length follower with a magnum length follower.

Having to mill out parts of an action, in addition to other mods, so a longer cartridge will fit and function is best left to a smith who really knows about and has experience with such.

Ah many thanks fella`s but I have to add a further AAAAHHH as I only sold a Win Mod 70 .338 last year that could have been used.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on another rifle but would love to see your rifle first, any way you could forward a pic or two?
Thanks,

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
