What did you reload today?

My favorite cartridge of all time!

I've loaded 160, 180, 200, 210, 225, 250 & 275s'. Barnes, Nosler, Hornady & Swift.

I call it my Meat Gun. aka, Thors Hammer.

Big or small, near or far it gets the job done on most anything short of dangerous game and doesn't kill you with recoil. Well the 250 & 275s can be a bit much to shoot off of a bench.
throw a suppressor on it and all good

Loaded up 50 rounds of 375 H&H. 40 rounds of Speer 270gr for practice, 10 rounds with A-Frames to start developing a load to hunt with.

Loaded new for me 9.3x62
285 gr Lead gas checked .368 diameter
AA 2230 46.5 grains
win large rifle primers
PPU new brass

Zastava Arms LK M70 9.3x62in 2027

I have ben given full release from doctor after my back surgery to shoot rifles again .
So I started off small L.O.L.
9.3x62 lead 285 gr gas checked sized .368 2156 FPS
This Mauser has a terrible trigger have a Timiney trigger coming.
A medium load for the 9.3 has some recoil but not bad this is the very first load shot for group's through this rifle after getting on paper
rifle has a light barrel from factory you could call it a modern sport barrel 24 inch
Now the work begins to 2400 fps should make a Wonderfull PG round for my up coming Safari

I am glad that you got permission from the doctor and that you are doing well.
Super group. Post pictures when you try the higher speed

Good shooting for cast loads at over 2,000fps.

Loaded 20 more 06 for my M70 - 180gr. SST's with 57gr. H4350 for deer. 2,745fps.
50 rounds 350gr. Hornady FN's for sighting/practice and elk with M1886/71 Pedersoli .45/70.
Accurate and 2,060fps w/58gr. Benchmark. Love it. Also did some 300gr. @ 2,240fps for deer.
Bro used this bullet and speed from his M74 Sharps on an 18 month old moose. Exited broadside
and dressed at 480 pounds in quarters hanging at the meat market. Bit oversized than a normal year and 1/2 bull moose for those years, mid 1980's. Now, they push 550pounds near here, same age. Taking the pressure off the mature bulls by having only spikes and 2 point season since '79 has paid off in larger moose. Have had limited entry hunts for big bulls since then, but not a lot of tags issued.
Reminds me, I should load up some .50/95's for the '76 Centennial. 52gr. N44 and 380gr. FN - 1,650fps.
That rifle weighs 11 pounds even when loaded with 12 rounds.

9.3x62 doing what it does best 285 gr at 2400 FPS

I am shooting two completely different modern rifles

One is a modern Zastava 98 Mauser light weight barrel 1 IN 14 TWIST

The other one is a rem 700 police heavy barrel 26 inch 30/06 that was rebored by JES to 9.3x62
1 IN 12 TWIST

Both rifles I installed ProMag Archangel stocks with 7 round detachable clips , glass bedded the actions to the stock and added limb saver 1.5 inch recoil pads.
The stock are ugly but give a lot of adjustments length of pull and cheek weld for scope or iron sights and will not be effected by weather

Very surpassing both are shooting the same load 1 inch groups at 50 yards 10 shot groups
with no leading in the barrels

AA 2230 51.2 grains THIS IS 1.2 GRAINS OVER THE AA MAX OF 50 GR in their older AA reloading book
Has no pressure sign or sticky extraction no ejector marks on brass in the rem 700

PLEASE WORK UP YOUR LOAD IN YOUR RIFLE

PPU brass

Winchester large rifle primers

cast lead bullet 285 gr powder coated and hi velocity bullet lube gas checked sized .368
BC .321

OAL 3.168 I chose this oal because it is working in both rifles

std deviation 6.95 in rem 700 , 8.62 in Mauser
spread rem 21.8 , 21.7 in Mauser

foot pounds energy at muzzle
rem 3660 , Mauser 3642

200 yards
rem 2279 , Mauser 2249

Zastava 98 Mauser Average FPS 2407.1 24 inch barrel
Rem 700 Average FPS 2410.3 26 inch barrel
I really thought the Rem 700 with a 26 inch barrel would be a lot higher FPS

Every thing I have read says the 9.3x62 is very easy round to reload and these two rifles are showing this to be true

Looking forward to using this load on PG in 2027

Thursday, Friday, and part of Saturday I loaded 7mm-08 for my daughters rifle, 7x57 175gr RN, 375 H&H with 300gr A-Frames, 308 with 110gr V-Max, 30-06 with 200gr A-Frames and some with 110gr V-Max
Forgot to mention, 45colt and 475 Linebaugh

A few more 416 Taylors today for testing. Progress has been slowed due to moose hunting and steelhead fishing. I will post results soon.

Well, I needed some .30-06, and looking through my stash, I saw I still had some Brenneke TOG bullets. Checking my notes, I have written "use 54.4 grains" of the VV N160 powder I have. Made sure to acquire some CCI BR2 primers to match my notes. I had two boxes of the TOG, one with 25 pills, the other with 22 (I must have used the others in a three shot group). Loaded up the 22.

Question for the group: In trimming my brass, I was a little aggressive while adjusting my trimmer, and the first piece ended up 0.002 in shy of the "trim to length". Can I fix this somehow (fire forming)? Other ideas?

I wouldnt worry about .002" on trim length

Did know Hornady made such a bullet. What twist barrel is needed/recommended?
@LeftySixgun

They normally don’t sell it to the public, it’s from their SBR line.

These are factory second/over run; 1:8 is recommended for short barrels but 16” 1:9 stabilizes just fine.

I’ve tested 1:8 10” suppressed and 16” 1:9 with great results.

The semi spitzer with flat base makes the bullet shorter than a spire point boat tail.

Results on feral pigs are impressive….. FYI that’s the entrance wound shown.

Thanks guys... I thought so, but wanted to be sure!

I was a machinist and tool & die maker for 26yrs. To put .002" in better understood practical terms, thats less than the thickness of printer paper and less than the thickness of the hair on your head.....for most men, lol

Snowing currently so I’m hunkered down in the reloading room, here’s a few from today. 338 win mag cases sized up to 416 Taylor thru the press. Cracked two out of 25 cases, so not too bad. Even managed a couple nickel cases although I’m not going to make that a habit as I suspect it’s hard on my dies. The nickel cases are loaded with 350gr Barnes banded solids and the others are 400gr Woodleighs.
Cheers

I've been loading some nickel cases for a number of years, Hornet and 'O6 mostly. Other than the nickel coated brass being a grain or so less capacity & slightly greater resistance with the expander plug(Hornady dies) I've felt little difference in the dies. I suspect that perhaps my fired size was little different to a sized case in dimensions. If there was a huge difference as in most RCBS dies vs. Remington factory rifles in a fired case size, yes, more die "wear" would happen. Just guessing here.
My experience with Rem. rifles is large neck dia. in the chamber as well as most RCBS dies I have had, oversized(reduced more than necessary) the necks, thus if using this combination of rifle make and die make, this could result in a LOT of pressure in the die from the "harder" coating on the case.
An other aspect in nickeled brass, is annealing. I've not had to do this, however makes me wonder if brass annealing, heating and quenching in water, would harden the nickel coating???
Manufacturers have minimum and maximum tolerances in their products that take into account reamer wear, re-sharpening those reamers removing metal, each time, the chamber gets smaller vs how large it was to start with. Compare a new reamer(largest size) cutting the size die vs a reamer sharpened multiple times cutting the chamber. Large chamber vs. smallest chamber = LOTS of sizing pressure needed = more "wear" on the die.

Thank you for the LIKE on my old post. It brought back memories as I lost her a year and a half ago, at 18+ years.
