I've hunted and taken two Livingstone Eland in Mozambique. I don't know what it is, but, I absolutely love hunting them!

Hard tracking over many miles. They are shy and always ready to bolt for several miles before they look back.

Their eyes, noses & ears are amazing.

And when I see them I simply get "Eland Fever" totally overwhelmed.

Does anyone else enjoy them as much as I do?

I few pics below of the two I have taken in 2026 & 2024.

Those are great bulls

Who doesnt love hunting an eland

I have not, but plan on fixing that in 2028. I wished I had a big enough house to be able to display a shoulder mount, but unfortunately, it will have to be a Euromount. :(

They are top trophy in Africa to me. I’d choose a proper eland hunt over a buffalo hunt any day. Far superior trophy to a kudu to me too. These are from Namibia, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and Uganda. I’ve taken one more in South Africa not attached.

Potting one at a waterhole or jumping off the back of truck to nail one after a short stalk isn't much of a hunt, but striking tracks at dawn and trying to walk down a big bull is one of the great hunts the continent has to offer. They can go vast distances, and are extremely wary.

This cape eland took two full days of following tracks.

Went to the Zambezi Delta of Mozambique the last two weeks of October hoping to take one of the big blue Livingstone's in the early rut. Did not come together until the final footsore day of a two-week hunt. Worth every mile of it.

I wanted an eland each trip to Africa, finally had success on the third. Incredible experience. Seeing them run and jump is something.

Someone is clearly addicted and committed to hunt all 3 sub species! Well Done!! ;-)

All incredible but that Lord Derby is amazing!

Eland are fantastic to hunt and even better to eat! I will do more eland hunting and I'm always intrigued by @375Fox saying he prefers them to buffalo. I just need to do more of it. I do think they deserve a heavier caliber. This one was taken with 416 Rigby and a cup point solid but .375s are perfect for them.

I think the eland stalk is one of the most challenging hunts one can do.

And I'm with @375Fox. The rush I get when finally catching up with an old bull is very special.
No better feeling for me.

And the meat is soooo good...

Very nice bulls, which calibre did you use?

I enthusiastically agree hunting eland by tracking is a great adventure. I have taken a half dozen scattered around Africa including two Giant Forest Eland. My first one fifty years or so ago. And as been written wonderful eating.

..375. Was also hunting buff and other PG. First was with a custom Mauser and 300 gr TSX. The Livingstone with an R8 and 300 gr A Frame.

416 and a CPS why?
We were tracking DG and bumped the eland like a big rabbit. Just luck on this one. CPS entered root of the tail and went all the way through to front of chest, just under the skin...full length penetration, end to end. Eland dropped like a rock.

I've always been a believer of bigger is always better in all hunting situations.

Your encounter and success are perfect examples of why my small gun on safari is a 416 Rigby. I have alot of Elmer Keith in me I guess.

I’ve taken 8 eland, 6 of which were males, then I took 2 females earlier this month on a management hunt. I did take a LDE hunt but was unsuccessful. Eland are pretty high up on my wish list on all of my hunts. The first 5 I took were with my .375H&H, the last 3 with my .308.

They have probably became my favourite game animal anywhere in the world. I really must get to Africa for a proper eland tracking hunt in the next couple of years.

Love the photos gents!

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
