How many people have a 35 whelen?

Another member has one of those that won't shoot for shit. 3" groups at 100 is the best he can get with handloads and factory TTSX are even worse.
Any suggestions for him.
Angled screw torqued to 95# and other screw at 45# I think.

Interesting estimate. Although Bob sings praises of it I have not owned one.

I know I’ve seen a few REM 7600 pump actions listed in 35whelen and there is factory ammo available I would have thought overall rifle production numbers would be be much higher.

Bob this is what I got yesterday when I was sighting the new scope in at 100. Top two were sighting in shots then the 4 shot group looks about 1-1 1/4" with Superformance 200 grain. Federal Fusion usually shoots pretty good but not in this rifle and Buff Bore 225's only got about 2.5". I like the rifle but not loving the accuracy just yet

check the rifling for wear. shoot factory ammo, choose what shoots and duplicate it. the COAL is often close to perfect for the gun (doubly so w/ Wby as they sell ammo specifically for their guns!!) I've seen guns that have had 100 rds through em w/ blown out rifling! Why? Because the 1st cleaning (and rust-rifling removal) occurred just before you bought it...

1.25" 4-shot groups w/ a 358 is all you need. It's NOT a long-range rig. You can still make it happen to 400 yds with that performance, but likely <320 for most uses (6").
 
I have a Ruger African with a Trijicon Accupoint 2.5-12.5x42 on top. I have shot exactly one animal with it. A whitetail buck with the Hornady Superformance 200gr last season. About 40 yards away, so not exactly a challenge. It just fell down stiff legged and died in place. Tracking = 0 inches.

I like it. It’s a lighter handling gun than I anticipated given the “African” moniker. I wouldn’t want it any thinner at the butt or lighter weight than it is in that caliber.

I've seen more 760/6/76/7600s than most, as they are the MOST popular woods rifle where I live (and other places in the NE! Maine!!) The biggest dealer in my home state had >1,000 of 'em for sale when I was a teen. As a kid spending lots of time at fam farms with long fields as a kid, at first I resisted (but one hunting friend 20 yrs my senior kept Insisting I get one-lol I jumped from a lever 30-30 to a 300 WM bolt and didn't look back...Until he gifted me a beautiful black parkerized 7600 carbine (18.5") and admittedly, my son and I have killed more game with that rifle than all others combined. It is PERFECTLY suited for African PH too, as moving shots are a breeze with 'em (never take your eye off the sight and if broken in it cocks/reloads itself under recoil-no moving the gun/shooter operating a bolt, etc.) I'll bring it over oneday but it looks military. LOL I recall all the specialty variants of the 7600 Rem offered (blonde wood, all sorts of club/association variants, some shops had the entire caliber lot offering as a package deal!) All calibers weren't offered every single year (35W was discontinued years before production ended and it was only available as a special order 1 year during that period. There were others-280, 257 Roberts, 223 and they even had a Police model 16.5" which looks like mine (or vice-versa.) I can do a trigger job on 'em in minutes. lol (I charge $100/min plus parts and shipping.) 35W only had some popularity out west. It was never big in the east (until they actually opened elk and bear seasons! When I got a 338-06.) These rem pumps are worth $ today (stopped making 'em >25 years ago, and so many different variants out there. The 7600s are clearly a better (improved) design (6 and 76 are same with diff options) but the 760s came in some wilder caliber choices (3 diff receivers for .22 hornet up to 300 H&H!) Good Stuff! :)

Maybe the rifle wants a heavier bullet? Although mine seems to like the light ones but that's the only 3 that I've tried so far. I'd love to find some 250's that mine will stack tight.

It's the same with 310gn handloads at 2,300+ fps 2-2.5".
Try and get hold of some old 250gn Hornady RNSP. In my rifle they are 1/2 moa shooters

Reload specifically for that gun (the chamber, the mag length-you'll squeeze some more accuracy out of it! Factory triggers often suck (to high a pull weight for liability reasons and Ruger IS the "champ" in that dep't.! I've had some that were 7.5 lbs (now 2-2.5 on varmint/hunting rigs.) Absolute worst trigger pull EVER (my Son's Ruger Alaskan 454 Casull defense gun.) There's probably an optional pipe or t-bar to put more leverage on it than a finger possibly can...LOL SMH 460 S&W works for me (or a 10 mm semi!)

Hey Panhandle what kind of accuracy do you get with those TTSX's? I haven't used any yet and I'm not really happy with the performance I've gotten from my Whelen
