How many people have a 35 whelen?

Hey Panhandle what kind of accuracy do you get with those TTSX's? I haven't used any yet and I'm not really happy with the performance I've gotten from my Whelen
Extremely accurate with hand loads. 3 shots will cut 3 holes touching. Never tried a factory load with the ttsx but Remington core lokts were over 2 moa.

The saami 35 whelen chamber has a mile of freebore. I seat my ttsx out to the second crimp groove. Crimping is a must for me because of a highly compressed charge of a2495, again straight from sierras manual.

It's so interesting that "Ruger African" is mentioned so many times in this post! It's just an Amazing accidental statistic!!! LOL Considering 99% of 35Ws were produced prior and most will shoot even better...(I'm NOT selling anything, and That's the problem!) ;) After Ruger 77 (even with the shitty trigger) many of us just laugh at posts re: their modern plastic crap with metal more closely resembling a feeler gauge (things people know nothing of these days!) Pink/blue hair, feelings ALL the rage...LOL :p Tell it like it IS! And then the "gang mentality" (this person said this thing so we should attack he-she..." LOL :p 77 is where the real quality stopped (and like Rem, but not as much so, it still needed Hotrodding!) Is ruger now the same co. as savage? LOL A corp. sales rep wasted so much of my time today driving home with his BS (simply because i bought something for a specific purpose.) Of course he votes Biden-Harris and still lives with his parents. (Useless, like most of the world today. Sad, but TRUE!) For the other 95%, IF we want to purchase something, we'll come to our own conclusions and buy it (but it'll prob be Old metal or fully custom,) because (quoting the hot blondes of the 70s-80s "We're Worth It!") LOL :p "It's not the same, old Savage..." (it's actually worse!) LOL Savage was done before I began hunting more that 1/2 Century ago...I just find it all amusing, but I caution the would-be Buyer, and in the end don't really care because I know a quality gun from a POS coca-cola peddled to the masses! Ruger should study and learn from Rem stat (as they went cheap shit and died rather quickly!) You're welcome,......

Buy a 35 Whelen Ackley Improved! It will not be a modern factory POS, it'll shoot circles around the aforementioned, and it can still shoot factory ammo if you don't (yet) handload. And, it'll outperform the 35W, behaving more like the blessed 358 Norma that again the coca-cola of gun companies will not produce! ;) GL

Here is my latest (5th)Whelen, just shot a moose with it last week. 1960 Remington 760, 270 barrel rebored to .35 Whelen by JES, barrel shortened to 19.75, teflon coated by Black Ice. Excellent rifle for wet Alaskan hunts. Been hunting with the .35 Whelen for 34 years now.

Sorry CW but I have to respectfully disagree.
To me the AI version of the Whelen ain't worth the extra effort in my book. The extra fifty odd fps ain't going to be noticed by game.
The special chamber, fire forming and new special order dies just don't make the juice worth the squeeze.
I have both and the normal Whelen loaded properly leaves nothing to be desired and plays happily with the big boys like the 338 and 358.
But that's my opinion y'all are free to disagree.

Bob, I have to agree with the performance. The new powders turn the standard Whelen into an impressive ctg., fully 250fps faster than Remington factory loads.
I must disagree, however with your assessment of the Ack. IMP design. I love it. The case-life longevity and the lack of bolt thrust are worth while to me. Making cases is easy and you can do all of your loading using
.358 Win. dies, or even more easily, .358 Norma Mag dies. You only have to size the neck.

“many of us just laugh at posts” Yup!

@Daryl S
I own both and to me the performance gains aren't worth it.
The argument of trimming the cases isn't that valid, I'm on my sixth reload and still haven't trimmed, maybe getting due..
If you are running your loads at 62,000 psi the pressure exerted on the base of the case will still be the same.
That good ol boy PO ACKERLY even said the gain comes from increase in pressure not case design. His aim was to improve case life with some of the older cases not increase velocity even tho he did go down the velocity road in experiments

My 35 AI takes 4grains more powder to achieve the same velocity as my standard Whelen.
If you enjoy your AI that's all that matters.
Now a 280AI necked up to 35 where you could put even more coal in the fire due to the shorter neck now that would be interesting. 70plus gn of an appropriate powder behind a 250 grainer should stir things up a bit.

Each to his own. My AIMP.375 cases have over 12 firings on them. I'm getting over 1912 .375H&H ballistics from it and matching what I shot from a .375H&H BRNO with factory .375 WW ammo.
Even though I an using a M98- style action, I have1 finger bolt lift and extraction.
I acknowledge my chamber is sightly larger, using perhaps "Arch" dimensions of a .460" shoulder, the other dimensions are about right.
I know your Whelen gets close with 300gr. Bullets, but that must mean your pressures are extrenely high.
2,472fps with 300gr. bullets and 2,650fps with 270gr. TTSX, for me, is more than enough.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
