WTB .300 Win Mag preferably threaded for suppressor

Hey Fellas!
I know, this listing is a little broad. Ok, it's way broad, but I'm looking for a VG condition .300 Win Mag for plains game hunting. I'd like to use a suppressor on this one, so I'd like it to be threaded. Bolt action only please. I cannot break the bank on this one either, so we are looking in the sub $1000 to just over that range. We still have all the accessories to buy and all that good stuff. As always, I appreciate all you guys do!

Me too, mine have always shot and I like the factory stocks a little more than tikka stock.

Also Bergara being a rem clone makes it easy for add ons.

Tikka T3X. There are blue/wood and stainless/synthetic. I believe the new ones are all threaded. The only down side is they are light, so recoil is brutal. The suppressor with tame that down though.

Many of my price point rifles are Savages and they’ve all performed and shot flawlessly.

Hard to beat a Tikka. I originally bought one for Harper and added couple more, every one of them shoots lights out strait from the box.

I have owned multiple bergaras and tikkas. They both have reputations for being very accurate. You said you are leaning towards Tikka. If you are going to get it in 300WM, I would seriously reconsider, and my advice would be to get the bergara. The tikka is very lightweight and even on moderate calibers the recoil is noticeably worse than other rifles. The only complaint I would have about bergara would be their rifles can be a bit heavy, but that would be helpful in the case of a 300WM.

I recently bought a Ruger American Gen 2 in 308 for my grandsons. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and accuracy. I am now thinking about getting one in 300 WM. Ruger makes a replacement piece for the butt stock where you can add weight, taking it from 6.5 lbs to a more reasonable 8 lbs. It also helps with the balance when running a suppressor.





This Stock Weight Kit makes it quick and easy to add up to 1.6 lbs. of steel weights in the stock of the Ruger American® Rifle Stock Generation II rifle. Shifting the center-of-gravity (CG) rearward counteracts heavy muzzle-end weights such as bipods, silencers, etc. and improves the rifle's balance, reduces felt recoil and improves carrying comfort in the field. The weight and balance of the rifle can be tuned by installing weights in 4 oz. increments based on shooter preferences and needs.

The Bergara and Tikka are great options, and would serve you very well; however, if it were me, I'd raise my budget by a few hundred dollars and get the Christensen Arms Ridgeline. This rifle seems to fit me better off the rack than any other current production rifle I've ever shouldered, and I know some fellow AH'ers who get fantastic performance out of their Christensens. The only reason I haven't bought one yet myself is simply because it would be a significant outlay for essentially what I already own. But if I were starting from scratch, this is the direction I'd likely go. Here is an example of what I'm talking about, at site sponsor Eurooptic for a little over 1,400.

That’s debatable. For a rifle that’s carried more than shot AND using a suppressor could be deciding factors. Depends on how @Hedge774 plans on using it beyond the stated PG hunt.

Personally, I’d rather have a light rifle that I can add weight to, because putting one on a diet can turn it into a money pit.

For an entry level (under $1K) rifle the Tikka is hard to beat.

I don't think there ary bad options.

Savage 110, 112, 111, 10, 12 whatever model they are calling it.

Savage Impulse, most accurate 300 Winchester I ever owned. Get the hog hunter, it is made for what you want to do.

I have a Winchester XPR, I wouldn't buy a 300 in that cartridge.

Howa 1500 would be fine. Especially if you can find one with the HS Precision stock and a threaded barrel. My triggers on those were awesome and they always shot.

Weatherby Vanguard (Howa 1500) same as above, but longer barrels.

Weatherby 307's will some times be available on clearance.

I ended up with a Savage 110 Timberline.

Medium contour barrel.
Using an AB Raptor 10
Very easy shooting.

One thing to keep in mind about threaded barrels. Light sporter contours can have issues with alignment when running a suppressor. Not enough of a shoulder on the barrel. Which is why some rifles these days have a flailed shoulder before the threading.

I would seriously consider a Tikka. I have a 300 win mag built on a rem action, medium barrel etc. it has a 26” barrel and with a suppressor I absolutely HATE to carry it. It became a dedicated field only gun.
Last off season I bought a Tikka lightweight in 300wsm, took it straight to the gunsmith, cut barrel to 18” and threaded it. Velocity loss was minimal, in fact we were shocked at speeds from an 18”barrel. It is an absolute DELIGHT to carry with a suppressor, handles well, shoots amazingly well, and recoil is not an issue at all. My only regret is that I didn’t do the same thing years ago. Suppressor really makes a difference on recoil. Tikka drop in parts and stocks are very abundant now.

For Christenson Arms, I wouldn’t bother unless it was used and you knew for sure it would shoot decent. I have had one that was great and a couple that really sucked. Had a friend send his back twice within first year. My local shop is a dealer, and they send more back for warranty than all other guns combined. Some wouldn’t even fire, headspace issues, etc.

I have also had two family members buy the expensive Begara and not be able to get them under 2” groups. They were sold and replaced with REM/Win, or tikka. I also hear good things about Begara though, so maybe those were flukes, any of them could have them.

As a side note I have 6-8 tikkas minimum currently. They all shoot very well with little to no load work up. Some I try multiple different bullets and powders with, then have to pick which bullet I want to use because they all grouped so well.

Thinking back on it, the C. arms rifle I had that was great had been trued and rebarrelled with a Lilja, so that would explain that one….
