To the poors-I salute you!

After a lifetime of contemplation, the magic formula is first, finding and staying true to your moral center, second, some mix of education & hard work to generate income, third living on less than that with no debt, and fourth, managing jealousy & envy.

The man who can accomplish that is comfortable, confident, and at peace. Most of the time he’s also generous and a lot of fun to be around.

If that means you get to go on safari, that’s a bonus!

B.I.N.G.O.!!! Wow, one of the best things I’ve read in a long time and great advice to the younger generations.

Figured I’d throw a shout out to all the guys on here who fly cattle class, don’t have a family ranch, and who will never drop a 100k on a hunt. We may not be rich, but we’re fun.
One thing sadly many esp in ameeica forget.

You can find money in the gutter.
Class is in the blood.

I wouldnt be so hasty to judge.

100 Trillion dollar bill.jpg

Geez guys, I didn't know it was that tough out there I'm still trying to spend away my 100 Trillion dollars there isnt any hunts out there that comes close to diminishing my pool as the interest earned just keeps piling on. :ROFLMAO:

After flying in seats facing backwards in a C-141, or the web seats in a C-130, and eating those wonderful box lunches, flying cattle class with the airlines is like flying first class. :ROFLMAO:
I’m sure you found the upgrade code when flying in the back of those cargo planes. It’ll always get you a “laydown pod” …. Pack a woobie and climb onto the pallet of duffles/rucks, or onto the hood of a vehicle.

True cattle class is when you’re rigged and shuffling

One of my favorite Ray Wylie Hubbard lines is,”…the days I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations, those are really good days.”

Yes, hunting can be expensive but it need not be. I've only hunted in Africa once; a management hunt in Namibia to celebrate my 50th birthday. I'm now making plans for my 60th in 2028. Low cost hunting options are available to many us which can provide great sport. The one thing I have found is that the most accomplished hunters don't judge others by financial wealth but by their knowledge (or willingness to learn), enthusiasm and ethical standards.

@CBH Australia
Chris I did it a bit different to you.
I got talking to my mate Ted Mitchell because I knew his son ran an outfit hunting water buffalo and I was interested in doing that.
After talking to that mad bastard Ted he asked why do I want to hunt a wild plough cow when you can go to Africa have more fun and more animals for less $$$. He put me in touch with an outfitter and the rest is history.
I was forced into retirement thru a shoulder injury and was at the age I could get my super tax free.
There was nothing the family needed or wanted and my beautiful wife said why don't you make your dream a reality. Sit the family went to Namibia and we were 21 days away in total hunting and sightseeing. It was a trip we will NEVER FORGET. One of my better choices in life.
Since then I have been very privileged to hunt Chinese water deer in England and still hunt at home when I can.
What more does a man want or need.
The love of a good wife, family and friends
The ability to own some nice(to me anyway) rifles
And the ability to hunt and pass my knowledge in to my son and others.
Life is good and I'm wealthy in the above.
A mate once said Bob God loves you., everyone else thinks your an arse. Well at least God loves me and if'n heaven is as good as down here all will be well
Bob
CWD is something I’d love to hunt someday. I’ve heard not the most challenging hunt but they’re certainly a unique trophy. Does the season overlap with roebuck and muntjac do you know?

I did a day hunting roe when I visited my sister in law a decade ago and missed a beautifully pearled buck. Still eats at me and an animal I put high on the list to hunt again.

I shall await your feedback on my man’s behavior. If he fails to impress with his carriage, which should be like that of a Prussian drill sergeant, and his manners, which should immediately indicate that you are dealing with a representative of a Southern gentleman, and of a great plantation, an even greater ranch, and a global collection of sporting estates and city townhomes, please let me know. I will insure that he does penance by riding for days in the seat next to the bathroom on all flights from Atlanta or NY to Florida.
Very well, good sir! I shall await your acquaintance’s arrival with a hopeful heart. I’m off to eat a fine breakfast of Bald Eagle eggs and take my Rhino Horn capsules now. Cherio!

An emoji does not exist to express my love and admiration of your post. Like a knight errant, I pledge myself to forever order Bald Eagle eggs, and to ask for Rhino Horn capsules, in all applicable settings. As I’m sure you know, Madison, Ga., was not burned by Gen. Sherman, for reasons I have heard attributed to (1) a West Point classmate came from there (2) the Southern belles were especially beautiful and (3) a one-legged Johnny Reb held them off. I have always liked the Johnny Reb explanation, frankly. I am glad that you are keeping the spirit of Madison, Ga., not only alive and well, but in better shape!

I perpetuate a saying my Dad taught me whenever we were experiencing something that enriched our souls - usually on a hunt or a family holiday to somewhere new - "I wonder what the poor people are doing?". We have never been financially wealthy but life is an accumulation of experiences. Since being diagnosed with cancer 8 years ago, money doesn't mean so much..... I hunt a lot more often now.

Ha peasant! Couldn't you get any Golden Eagle eggs.
Well played, I just want to note that I use $100 bills to light my Cohiba Behikes. Also, sometimes, if I’m bored, I buy a first-class ticket to Africa, even though it conflicts with my office schedule, and I use that ticket to light the mahogany wood I burn in my office fireplace.

I remember simpler days like you describe, now I have my private jet fly Africa, completely empty to pick of fossilized wood, which is lighted by my personal master fire starter who only will light wood by hand. How I long for the days of just lighting 100 dollar bills fire, enjoy the simply times my friend.

@LivingTheDream, I feel humbled. Fossilized wood fires, with a master fire starter, skilled in the mysticism of fire, is something I could not even have imagined until now. Out of deference to you, and those whose refined palates extend to Bald Eagle, and Golden Eagle, eggs, I must advise you that I will have my assistant - one week from today so my brethren, and betters, can get their supply - call all of the top gun makers to buy all of the exhibition grade wood so I can use it this fall to warm my house.

Good sir, you are really living! I will document this extraordinary moment, using my Dodo quill pen, with Hui Mo ink and sealed with baby seal tears, dated and stored in the archives to commemorate this historic achievement of decadence! This is a great achievement for finer society that surely will noted for generations! I say, Well done!

Sounds like "I sho' is sorry for me" from this guy.

You are far richer than 95% of the people on this planet, yet you whine over the size of your airplane seat.....Really???
If you are going to be poor, the USA is the best place to be poor. I agree about being richer than 90-95 %. I know not a popular opinion.

For a self declared multi-millionaire that can afford Ferraris you sure have a chip on your shoulder about those that are comfortable and enjoy life.

You mention it like a badge of honor that you live in squalor even though you can do better. I don't get the logic there.
There is never any logic flowing when that old man starts bashing on his keyboard.

I might disagree, only because everyone in all those Third World Countries have nothing to compare to. There’s no jealousy or envy from them because they know any better or how to comprehend what we in the west need to “live”. They’d love to have an extra chicken, goat, cow or Donkey.

Ask any of the guys on AH with a bunch of time in Third World Countries, especially ones that are/were war torn or experiencing some level of a humanitarian crisis. Guys like @mdwest @SFRanger7GP @roverandbrew the civilians are normally smiling, laughing and joking despite, the kids always are. Give a kid a small piece of candy, even a single M&M and you’ve made their week or month. It’s amazing the things they’ll do for $5 or $20 and what that will get them since it’s as much or more than they’d make in a day or week.
