6x42 Fixed Power Scope?

I found a 6x42 fixed power scope for sale (Meopta MeoPro) with a German 4 reticle. I am trying to decide how I would use if I bought it and what to mount it on. My rifles range from .223 up to .375 with many (my wife thinks too many) in between.

I am open to suggestions as to why I should or should not buy it.

Stalking rifle for non dangerous game. Possibly get it reparallaxed to 75 yards. Popular option around these parts before people went mad for variable magnification scopes. Works well.

Meopta Optics are solid.

he Meo Pro 6x42 with duplex type reticle is very nice, I had one mounted on a Ruger 77 MK II in 223. Very clear and accurate.

I have Two Zeiss 4x32 Conquest built by the Meopta factory. (US East Coast).
Very clear, and light gathering at dawn and dusk was better than some lower end Swarovski (1.25 x5.5 Habich) and the 4x the Zeiss Diatal.

I sold the Ruger 223, but I would buy another low power Meopta tomorrow. and would shop quality optics in Europe,

Worth the shipping costs.

An excellent scope that can handle a lot. It's not exactly the best for driven hunting, but for shooting at normal distances it's excellent.

I have that exact Meopta 6x42 fixed power, down to the German #4 reticle. I really like how simple and easy the sight picture is. Mine is mounted on my BRNO 7x57, and I took a nice buck with it at 150m this past fall, right at opening shooting light.

From memory, the 6x42 was the standard for sniper rifles for quite some time....

on a 42mm objective, 6 power allows the maximum amount of light through (as I recall). It's plenty for up to 300yds

When I was growing up (many decades ago) the 4x scope was the ONE to get. As my eyes aged, the country became more open shots became a little longer I've switched to 6x, mostly Leupold M8 6x42mm. The big game rifles that have variables on them are generally set at 5 or 6x pending a change due to circumstances. I actually prefer 6x fixed scopes- it's just no one seems to make them any more.

i have that same scope(leupold m-8 6x42) mounted on a browning a-bolt in .280 for light woods deer hunting.

Great scope for 0 to 200 yards, maybe a little further. Prefect for a lightweight walk and stalk rig. I had a 4x scope on my 30-06 for years. Now a 4 to 12 that stays on 4 most of the time. Those scopes are light and easy carrying.

You all have convinced me. I just sent the money for the scope. I think I will put it on my Interarms 7x57. I previously thought about putting an older Bausch & Lomb Balvar 1.5-6 on it. I think the Meopta glass will work out much better.

The German #4 is very useful. Mount the fixed 6x up to a 35 Whelen or down to a .25 caliber.

I took rifles with 3-9 scopes to Africa and never moved them off of 6x or so. I would love to see more of the fixed 6x scope being offered rather than those high magnification versions with knobs to turn to adjust. I never had an animal stand still long enough to fiddle with adjustments before the shot. Good old PBR works for me.

I have three 6x fixed scopes & like them all. Whenever I'm hunting, I don't want to be adjusting my scope by turning knobs. I prefer to have it set for an appropriate magnification & leave it alone. For the moderate hunting ranges I shoot at, this is easy to do. I shoot a lot of single-shot falling-blocks. A simple rifle with a simple scope is a favorite setup.

I have a pair of 303 British. The Ruger No. 1A has a Leupold 6x42:

My Winchester 1885 Safari Octagon in 375 H&H has a Zeiss Diatal Z 6x42 MC:

I have a Schmidt & Bender fixed 6x42 fitted on my 7x64. I find this scope to be excellent at all Bushveld distances. It’s a no fuss option and is always clear and in focus.

It is not that I don't like it but I think the Meopta would be the better option. Plus I think I have more scopes than rifles I want to put them on. My problem is I see someone selling a decent used scope at a reasonable or even cheap price and I end up buying it.

That is also my "problem"...I end with more scopes than rifle for the same reasons of yours!
Anyway if that Bausch & Lomb Balvar is in good shape, would be my choice!!

Not Meopta, but I have a 6x Leupold on a .280 and never found a need for more.
