@PCC600Victoria / NSW - who cares . Queensland is the place to be . Beaches , jungle , desert - we’ve got it all .
@jpr9954If limited to 4 including rimfire, here are my choices from among the rifles I own.
.22LR
.257 Roberts (or AI)
.280 AI
.375 H&H
If rimfire is excluded, then my choices, again from what I own, would be:
.257 Roberts (deer or coyote sized varmints)
.280 AI (deer, plains game, and elk)
.308 Norma Mag (bigger game)
.375 H&H (dangerous game including bears and Cape buffalo)
I know both the .257 Roberts and .308 Norma Mag are odd choices but I own them plus have plenty of brass. I don't own a .300 Win Mag so my magnum is the somewhat older .308 Norma Mag.
@rob7mm08I know I should respect my elders but I think I've figured out why you don't like the 243 wonder weapon
You can't handle the huge amount of recoil and muzzle blast.lol
I'll buy you a muzzle brake so you can finally enjoy the woders of the beast
Not sure but used to count as one, though can't be a straight pull action
....and even though as you probably know I can't stand blaser rifles that is ridiculous about straight pull rifles....

Hmmmm a bit like a noisy neighbour especially one that likes large bore thunder pipes@rob7mm08
Good to see you have a sense of humour.
The 243 already makes enough noise in a 20" tube so don't need a brake.
The 243 is all noise and no go in my book.
I bit like taking the muffler off a lawn mower. Noisy as shit but not much use unless you want to annoy someone.

Yeah I agree, I was considering the Sako 100 if I ever win bigIf it's still the case then a shame mauser stopped making the mo3 .....only one of the switch calibre rifles I liked....never had the spare cash to get one though...used to make up a calibre list though when was daydreaming though....and even though as you probably know I can't stand blaser rifles that is ridiculous about straight pull rifles....
If you wanted a rimfire I'd go 17hmr or 17wsm.As it's 4 in total I haven't a clue..but as you in oz and a handgun wouldn't figure anyway....Will give it a go.....and as you are in oz and presumably looking at majority use there, with occasional trip to an African country.....and not 100% on what you hunt there in oz I will have a go with some of the calibres I have...
.22lr...or maybe a .22 hornet instead
12 bore
7x57

Since we aren't counting RF or shotguns, I would have to go with .22-250, 7-08, .300 Win Mag, and .458 Win Mag.I'm from the great state of NSW Australia and in their wisdom the government of said state wants to limit the average licenced shooter to a limit of four calibres.
I'm not entirely sure if that includes rimfire and shotguns, for this exercise we will only limit to centre fire.
My four calibres are
22 250
30 06
9.3x62
404j
Should cover anything I want to hurt anywhere in Australia and overseas
Let the fun begin
Rob
I'd keep the 30 06 and get rid of the 300 win, I don't think I'd get enough Xtra with the 300 mag.Since we aren't counting RF or shotguns, I would have to go with .22-250, 7-08, .300 Win Mag, and .458 Win Mag.
This exercise was difficult. I had to.leave out my .30-06 and 7mm Rem. It's like asking a father of six to name his four favorite children!
@rob7mm08I'd keep the 30 06 and get rid of the 300 win, I don't think I'd get enough Xtra with the 300 mag.
I know it's better especially with heavy projectiles, just not enough for me to to get thumped by the Xtra recoil.
If I was going to soak up more recoil I'd go with a 338 of some sort or even a 375 H&H
I'd load the 06 up with a good 180 or 200 and off to Africa I go for plains game.@rob7mm08
In Australia the ought six is fine. Can't see much need for the 300.
Instead of the 338 or 375 I went with the Whelen.
Equals the 338 and not far behind the 375 when loaded properly.
I get 2,900 fps with 225s and 2,455fps with 310s in my Whelen. And it leaves your hat in your head when you pull the trigger.
Bob
I did consider the 35 whelen but don't really get much more than owning a 243 beast Slayer lol@rob7mm08

While I have killed many blacktail deer and some plains game with .my .30-06, I have noticed more dramatic results with the .300.and 200 grain bullets. The difference in recoil doesn't bother me. Anyway, with the 7-08 and the .300 I just don't use the '06 much anymore. I use the 7mm Rem Mag the most for deer, pronghorns and such, but if I can only have four rifles I'd go with the ones I listed.I'd keep the 30 06 and get rid of the 300 win, I don't think I'd get enough Xtra with the 300 mag.
