I would like to know if there are any good books about hunting Africa. I already have some on my wishlist, but are there any that you guys recommend?
 
The Lions of Tsavo , African Game Trails Death In The Long Grass, Death In Silent Places There Is Something About Buffalo. To name a few.

I actually read The Lions of Tsavo, someone does audio for hunting books on YouTube and I just listen. That was a good one.

Anything by Capstick or Ruark is excellent. Teddy Roosevelt's African Game Trails is another classic. Man Eaters of Tsavo by JH Patterson is really good. Another really good read is White Hunters the Golden Age of Safari by Brian Herne. It's part history book part hunting.
 
John Burger wrote several good books. J. A. Hunter also wrote some great books. Ian Nyschens book “ Months of the Sun” is a great read. There’s a lot of great books out there !
 
A very good book for some of the questions you have asked would be “Ask the Namibian Guides” It’s $20 for used copies on Amazon now. It’s practical hunting questions and answers for hunting Namibia from several of the top PHs about 15 years ago. Still very relevant today. I enjoyed reading it even after hunting Namibia several times.
 
One thing to remember when reading books about Africa, even a book written recently may be out of date by the time you read it. Things are pretty fluid there in a lot of Africa. The most stable are probably South Africa and Namibia. Just my opinion.

I'm starting to compile a list of all the essential books on the topic of African Hunting and am planning to read them in chronological order this summer.

1. 1907 - John Patterson - The Man Eaters of Tsavo
2. 1910 - Teddy Roosevelt - African Game Trails.
3. 1923 - W.D.M. Bell - The Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter
4. 1935 - Ernest Hemingway - Green Hills of Africa.
5. 1948 - John Taylor - African Rifles and Cartridges
6. 1949 - W.D.M. Bell - Karamojo Safari
7. 1953 - Robert Ruark - Horn of the Hunter
8. 1960 - W.D.M. Bell - Bell of Africa
9. 1978 - Peter Hathaway Capstick - Death in the...

That would be the perfect book for me, I actually want to go hunt in Namibia in the future as my first trip to the continent.
 
Isn’t there shot placement books for certain animals as well? I thought I saw one somewhere?

I thought Craig Boddington had a couple books showing like a 3D image of where the vitals are located? Like a picture of an Impala’s heart and lungs for example. I take a look at the book you mentioned as well.
 
Robertson has 2 pocket sized books along with a full size book, not sure if Craig has a shot placement book just look on his website.

I think those were the books, maybe I got the authors mixed up.
 
To me another good author of African books is Peter Flack, he wrote species specific books, all of the spiral horns, buffalo and one on roan, sable and oryx.
They are a little expensive if you can find them but are worth it IMO.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
