New lipsey's ruger alaskan bush rifle in 9.3x62 and 35 whelen

It's a known fact that among some rugers, some of them come from factory with a weak spring. Seen this twice within a dozen ruger's I've worked with over time. I installed a 28# spring and no more issues.

I've only ever had that with the single Ruger American rifle I got (that was enough) and never seen it with the M77 action. Good to know they are out there though if that does prove to be an issue with these.
I have however seen the Remington ammo be the issue across many different brands of rifles and even when multiple ammo brands are used, it's only the Rem that does it. Will be curious to see how it shakes out.

Thanks a lot for posting this video! I didn't expect the action screw to need to be that tight, wow. I'll definitely know what to do now when my floor plate arives. Please keep us posted with your iron sights solution

No problem. Thanks for watching! I’ll keep you posted.

Attempting to fix my iron sight issue and light primer strikes on the Alaskan Bush Rifle in 35 Whelen.

I appreciate all of your videos on this rifle. My order recently arrived at my LGS. First trip to the range my rifle was also showing a very low POI with the iron sights.

Ruger must be well aware of this issue now, because when I called last week the lady I spoke to was well aware of the problem and immediately knew the part number of the shortest front sight, which is in the mail to me.

If you go onto the NECG website they actually say this in their front sight section for the Ruger.
I put a .330” front and my rear is the taller than the factory rear of this bush rifle. That put me dead on at 50 yards with my load.

Brining this chat back! I am about to pull the trigger on my elk rifle and this caliber and rifle is talking to me. 9.3x62. I like the size of the rifle and for shots 400 max and in I think this would be the ultimate Elk hunting rifle or even in the 35 whelen. What do you guys think?

I think I have two of these showing up this week from Lipsey’s if you want one ;)

Got one coming in 9.3x62.

If I could afford it, I would get a second in 35 Whelen.

I will use the 9.3 with 250-286 grain bullets, including solids which are available for it. Perfect for big bears and plains game as well as Buffalo.

The Whelen in my mind shines with 200-250 grain bullets. A better choice for deer or more open country.

Handloading for either extends its versatility with heavier bullets in the Whelen plus lighter ones in the 9.3x62.

May have to sell some other stuff to get that Whelen if I really like the 9.3 version.
I have used my 9.3 with both norma232 grain oryx and Alaskan bullets on deer and hogs and they perform very well.

I am still loving mine. My dog jumped and treed a yearling male mountain lion on our evening walk a few weeks ago. It had literally been laying up right alongside the trail, and it certainly had to have heard us coming. As luck would have it I had a tag in my pocket and my bush rifle on my shoulder. Number 6 mountain lion is in the books, and the hide is currently at the taxidermist for tanning.

I bought the 9.3x62 and love it. I used this caliber on my 1st leopard hunt and decided that should Ruger ever build it in this particular platform, I would buy it. Right now it’s in the safe as I am waiting on 30 mm rings, on back order at Ruger, to mount a Leupold scope.

I agree with this, which is why I have both. I actually have two 9.3s: an early 2000s CZ 550, and the Lipsey's Alaskan. My .35 Whelen is a Lipsey's African.

It occurs to me that having two 9.3s is an opportunity to create two loads. Maybe one with the Speer 270 gr for the CZ, and and the Hornady 286 gr Spire Point for the Ruger. I have a supply of the Hornady 200 gr Superformance for the .35 Whelen.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
