I’m doing a hunt in the karoo next June, followed by some sightseeing at Vic falls. I thought I might spend a day or maybe just a half day doing some tiger fishing there. Has anybody fished that area that could give me some insight or advice? Maybe a recommendation on a fishing guide? Thanks in advance

Make sure the water levels are OK for fishing before you commit your money. That river is subject to both flooding and drought. I fished during a flood, no fish were encountered.

What time of the year are you going to be hunting? In doing a quick google search it says Sept to November is the best times to tiger fish. I've stayed in Vic Falls a number of times and I've always wanted to do the whole Devil's Pool thing, but water levels were never right for when I was going to be there.

First week of June, 2027
I would heed @Longwalker's advice and seek out a fishing guide in that area to get their input. In 2019 I first hunted near Vic Falls, then I flew down to SA and hunted in the Karoo, makes for a great trip. My one suggestion for Vic Falls, be sure to have lunch or tea out on the patio of the Victoria Hotel, it's a real experience, something not to miss.

From my understanding September October onwards once water starts warming up is best time. June is very early but spending time on Zambezi is a good experience regardless.

I never witnessed anyone fishing around the falls, but (I see you're coming from RSA) 'have seen several beautiful fishing lodges/camps upstream along the Caprivi on the Namibian side (Zambezi R.) and I have to imagine there are some places near the falls in Zim too. Big NP in Botswana in-between the two, but all I saw were elephant in the forest on that leg! GL The Zambezi is an amazingly large, highly flowing, clear blue river upstream of the Falls-it IS something to behold! Even when we came from the aforementioned, the falls were just a trickle at the time. Some big crocs, too, but they were on the Zambia side (also elephant immediately upstream of the falls.) I love the Safari lodge and the open market near the bridge to Livingstone.

We have been fishing above the falls a couple times, went in '24 and last time was for 3 days this past November.
Feel free to PM me any questions and I will certainly help with what I can.

One of my highlights of my first safari at Nyakasanga was the tiger fishing we did. I only caught one but when I got back to Zim, a few days of fishing will be set aside for sure

.

Maybe reach out to Chris Wood at Tiger Fishing Zambezi dot com. He has been in the business for over 25 years & knows the river in & out. Me, I would book an extra 2 or 3 days dedicated to tiger fishing rather than just hitting the banks.

(ps hope that it is ok to recommend someone on here that is not a sponsor etc & not breaking any site rules .... )

What did you learn? I'll be there in May 2026. I was just thinking the helicopter tour but this might be a good distraction.

Well, in June 2024 I was fishing the Zambezi at the other end of Zim, in the Maputa gorge having bagged my buffalo in Dande

However, I was in Vic Falls last June (2025.) We have a friend who lives in VF and he recommended this hotel https://shongwe-oasis.com/ which is amazing and much better value than the famous ones that sit nearer the river. If you have already booked a room elsewhere I'd recommend a trip there for a sundowner from their lookout tower and then dinner

We obviously did a trip to the falls on foot. Whatever you wear, however much rain gear... you will get soaked to the skin so shorts and flip flops would be best. Don't bother buying a poncho from the hawkers. Also mind your cell phone as we both got an alert to say water had got in our phone (as we took photos)

We had lunch at the Victoria Falls hotel, be sure to walk the corridors, the photos on the walls are a great record of the history of the country

If you have been hunting in land then a boat tour on the Zambezi would be a good choice (our pal has a boat and we did a sundowner cruise)

Shops wise it's limited but there's a couple selling safari clothing (like Salty) and be sure to go to Patrick Mavros' store on the high street

We were only there for two days. My daughter was there the year before and said the boma dinner and drum show is good

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
Cheers,

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
