If a person is patient there will be some good deals to be made on the gray market. More than likely it will be headed down hill for a while.

Not just watches either, just about anything.
 
a good friend just sold 150 one once .999 pure silver rounds for over 100 dollars apiece usd, he told me he had less than 30 dollars apiece in them. i thought he was crazy when he was buying them.

Not my cup of tea with the polished center links and what looks to be a flattened out Jubilee bracelet. Makes me think of the 1970's era stying and I'd like to leave the bell bottoms behind.

I still think the best deal for a first Rolex is the Oyster Perpetual 41 mm on the Oyster bracelet and black dial. An incredible everyday tool watch that will show little wear over years of use while maintaining 100 meters of water resistance. From tux & tie to jeans & t-shirt...it will never be out of place.

I know it's boring, but boring can be elegant and graceful as well. It's boring like a CRF magazine rifle in 375H&H that will always get the job done in style. Both are timeless classics.

My wife is with me on most of my hunting and outdoor activities. She has broken a handful of typical “ladies’ watches”. Finally gave her one yesterday that will last for our 32nd anniversary. We were laughing at dinner last night and we decided 32 years is only the halfway point in our marriage, so we are calling it the “halfway watch.” Now I just have to patch up my carcass and make it last 32 more years into my 90’s.. fwiw - I ordered it through my local Rolex dealer, an independent jeweler. Took a 1 1/2 year wait, but they came through. She has worn and enjoyed a Lorier copy for the last year and a half, so I knew liked the look and size. As I posted earlier in this thread, I’ve worn my Rolex Submariner all day every day for fifty years this year. It has been a solid, reliable piece of equipment.

Cool movement, a really ugly watch.

Hopefully they'll start rolling it out to other designs in the future. I might try and pick up a sky dweller or a gmt master with that movement if they make one. Depends on the dealer experience I guess.

Either way, it's nice to see them do some innovation on their escapements, finally brings them to parity with Omega on the technical side. I like the sapphire caseback as well, even if it's not a particularly attractive movement.
 
I went to an AD about a year ago looking for an Airking. Same old story. They had a display model that was not for sale but just happened to have a pre-owned they would sell me for IIRC $14K. The MSRP on a new Airking is about $8K. I walked out and didn’t bother to play the waitlist games. Fast forward to about 6 months ago and I bought an Airking from a reputable gray market dealer for less than $9K. It was a BNIB complete set with warranty card.

If you bought a Rolex 10 years ago and tried to sell it today that would be true. That may or may not be true if you bought a Rolex today and tried to sell it 10 years from now. The premium watch market is very fickle. Lots of fluctuations. I would never buy a watch as an investment. I buy them because I like certain watches and my intention is always to keep them. I change my mind sometimes but if/when I sell a watch I do so because my ownership experience has run it’s course and it’s time to move on. If I make a buck, great. If I lose a few bucks that’s okay too.
 
I dearly love and daily wear my 2 Rolex’s (but not at the same time for the smartasses here:) and as I mentioned in previous post, been wanting a 3rd, go figure. I got on a list a couple years back at the AD I bought my 2nd one from and after sometime they
Politely told me to give up hope ( they cater to guys who buy dozens…)
But all is not lost. Previously looked at Tudor, hmm
And last year they made a new tool watch, the Pelagos Ultra, which caught my engineering eye:)
Travel thru the wind storm yesterday to my local AD, 109 mi, and…

My wife gave me a Sea Dweller for my 60th 22 years ago. It stays in the box most of the time. I am on my 2nd iWatch an Ultra 3.

I’ve bought over 100 luxury watches. It’s not a guess.

Yes you may not be able to sell it the moment you want to. But if you buy reputable brands at the right price you can ALMOST always sell them for a profit later on.
