Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

I dearly love and daily wear my 2 Rolex’s (but not at the same time for the smartasses here:) and as I mentioned in previous post, been wanting a 3rd, go figure. I got on a list a couple years back at the AD I bought my 2nd one from and after sometime they
Politely told me to give up hope ( they cater to guys who buy dozens…)
But all is not lost. Previously looked at Tudor, hmm
And last year they made a new tool watch, the Pelagos Ultra, which caught my engineering eye:)

I wear my Pelagos almost daily. I don't worry about scratching it or getting it dirty. I just wear it. I love the watch. The Rolex watches get zero wear.

Buying a Rolex is just a flash ya cash. Cheapo digital keeps time as good these days (ha!)
Yes. And both a Ferrari California and a Kia will get you from your house to the airport.

I used to covet getting a Submariner from my birth year. Was one of the items that drove me to grind along in my career.

Finally got the discretionary funds to buy a nice one from my birth year though by then my cell phone was always with me and it showed a very accurate time and auto-updated as crossed time zone boundaries.

I wear an Apple Watch now and tracks several data points for my health and can be used to tap and pay. My grandkids like the scrolling photographs that are the face of my watch. For me, not going to take a step back from modern technology to embrace something which is an amazing well-crafted symbol of a simpler time (pun intended).

I also was sure I would buy an older car from the late 1950s or 1960s to drive on nice days here in the desert during retirement but the Tesla with its safety assist features and no leaking fluids made me not get an older car. I appreciate those older vehicles and ride in one every time I get a chance which is less often these days.

I'm still in a one-hundred-dollar Citizen .. but I found something!

And I'm serious. I got the magazine, I'm going to see it's cost & availability ...

Nevermind.

A. It's a Women's
2. It's $20K .. &
C. Citizen's working fine.

The trend the last few years has been towards smaller diameter watches. Rolex reduced the size of the Submariner in the latest generation and Omega did the same with the Planet Ocean. The sweet spot is closer to 39 mm and 42 mm now seems oversized.

Of course it depends on your wrist size and how you think it looks. Just know that there a lot of men out there wearing a 36 to 39 mm diameter watch.

Be confident in yourself and know what you want are two big keys. All the best.

Thank you, as always. I thought it was unique, definitely not masculine .. Georg Jensen.

My 42 mm Omega PO is as big as I could possibly go with my wrist size. That said, it’s my favorite watch by a mile. I tried a 43.5 and 45 mm but the diameter combined with the thickness was a deal breaker.

I’m much happier with my thinner watches that are at or below 40 mm. They wear more like a dress watch instead of a diver.

Personal preference, but that’s what this is all about.

I absolutely love my Tudor Black Bay Heritage. I do not see them in the shadows of Rolex and feel they are doing well with advertising in the right markets and at the right price point...Sports, adventure, military unit watches, people who do stuff......

I agree the trend is going in the right direction. Most watches I like 39-40mm size with some exceptions. However Rolex did not reduce the size or the lates Subs. Unless this is something that happened recently. When the 126610 & the 12040 came out in 2021 they increased this size to 41 from 40 much to many dismay. While this does not sound like much on the wrist its a good bit bigger than I like. The Date-Just is also now 41.

I thought Rolex went smaller, my bad.

I’ve liked these since a teen, anyone happen to have one here? Way more interest than a Rolex, may be higher end? Dunno, they’re beyond attainable for me for a long while.

These are individually hand-made high-end mechanical astronomical complications from a Dutch luxury watch company also known as CVDK (Christiaan van der Klaauw). I have no working knowledge of their watches or company, but their prices reflect those that are highly sought after.

Certainly lesser known than Rolex and as such will only be desirable to the right buyer, but for accuracy/value/serviceability you would need to consult a professional or CVDK directly.

For the Rolex haters.

Dang!!! Even books about them are expensive!?! :ROFLMAO:

That looks like it would be a fascinating biography to read.

For a long time I had a vintage Rolex manual wind, black face gold indices from the 1960s. Great looking watch. Took it to a Rolex dealer for a routine cleaning and oiling. They refused to work on it because I no longer had the original bracelet from the 1960s. To my face they said it was no longer "genuine." The snobbery of a clerk to an actual Rolex owner was amazing to me.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
