Not sure when or where I purchased these CCI Small Rifle Primers, so far I have had 21 out of 200 to not go bang.

I use to swear by CCI's dependability with 8 days before wheels up for Africa I am now swear at CCI's dependability and reload using Winchester primers.

Interesting…I bought some 30-06 ammo using CCI large rifle and had three not fire out of 80

Still using CCI and Winchester primers. No problems to report. Been loading CCI into my .222 Mag cases and things are fine. Taking the rifle with the loads to RSA in just over one week. Hunting the Tiny ones this time. Hope you get it sorted out.

Considerations. (My 2 cents which won't even get a coffee).
- Are you experiencing a firing pin issue like a light strike?
- Clean/degrease as necessary.
- Have gunsmith inspect.
- Are the primers fully seated in primer pocket?
- Set cartridges on flat surface and check for any wobble.
- Are the primer pockets stretch and primers not providing correct strike surface?
- Call CCI and send primers back for them to inspect.
- Personally I've been reloading for 45 years with CCI and never had a misfire that was not related to a light strike.

I haven't had a problem yet with CCI Large Rifle Magnum but reading this thread with interest since I bought 1000 of the things. I prefer Winchester but CCI was all that could be found. All I need is a charging buffalo and the deffining sound of "click".

Its not the primers....

I had 6 Remington 9 ½ out of 500 fail to fire in my model 70 375, I was really disgusted with Remington primers and did not trust them in DG ammo, just using for practice loads. Then I decided to change the firing pin spring, so far about 4-500 rounds without a problem, I don't think it was the primers. You might try a new spring.

Edit: my OP, Last line should have read: ....I am now swearing at CCI primers for their unreliability and will be reloading using Winchester primers.

I use the BR-2 primers in my non-magnums and have never had a problem. Hope that continues as I’ve got thousands of them still.

I was a PD shooter for many years. Only used CCI small BR primers. Loaded about 5000 rounds a year never had an issue except when one turned over in the Lee primer tool.

I have no idea how many of 10's of thousands of rounds of ammunition in various calibers over the 40+ years I have been reloading using CCI primers with no failures, except +1 on a primer getting flipped in the primer plunger.

Back in the 70's when i first started reloading i had no faith in Federal and Remington primers as this same thing happened with them and i had several rounds to factory ammo to not fire because of bad primers. Now I have a loss of faith in CCI primers.

It’s not a FN Winchester M70 by chance is it?

Are you asking @flying sailor the manufacturer of his .222 rifle? Or asking me the manufacturer of my 22 Hornet?

My rifle is a Ruger Model 77/22 22 Hornet.

I have a batch of cci primers I purchased a long time ago that I have had problems with. I keep dipping back into them from time to time hoping it was just a few. I think it is time to destroy them and move on.

+1. I'll use up these CCI primers reloading only enough ammo at a time for range practice to avoid mixing bad reloads of ammo with my other ammo.

It's not the firing pin as the firing pin was the first thing I checked; looking for gummed up, worn, chipped, or broken firing pin.

The misfires were randomly: 1 to 18+ go bang, then 1 to 3 misfires, then 1 to 18 go bang, then 1 to 3 misfires. Using 3- 6 count magazines, some where in the count may or may not be a misfire, reload the magazines, rotate use another rifle or 2 while the barrel cools on the 22 Hornet, back to shooting the Hornet and back to not knowing when I'm going to have misfires.

+1 on having a lot of ammo reloaded using CCI primers. I also have several thousands of various calibers reloaded with CCI primers.

First time using a "recent" batch, as I stated in my OP I don't remember when or where I purchased these CCI primers; it could have been a couple of weeks ago or a couple of months ago. I generally purchase 1000 to 3000 primers at a time. I was down to 2000 primers when I last purchased 3000 CCI primers on sale a couple of months ago and another 2000 primers 2 or 3 weeks ago when primers went on sale.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
