500 Jeffery Club

Fletcher Jamieson , hunter and photographer, sadly died young 1947, may not be known by everyone but was also a fan of the cartridge 500 Jeffery.

I watched a little clip on this called "Legendary Firearms" .. Thanks for the above!

@Daniel Cary that dont look like a standard laminate stock on a Sako 85. Is it the fancy Safari version??
That's actually an AHR, purchased 2nd Hand. Listed online but relatively close enough to see it in person.

My smith gave up after a lot of work I can't work it out tbh. I'm thinking about a sako 85 brown bear but need to get my hands on one. Maybe at the shooting show in February
I think our best bet is to start with a cheap Mauser copy. Do all the machine work on it, fiddle about. If we master it we can copy the dimensions over to a nice action and call it done.

Have you got brass, bullets and dies there?

Yep, yep and yep

I have shot 375 Sako's that recoil themselves apart so..weight and fit are important when shooting super bores but having the stance all wrong with a too light rifle that does not fit you....oh well....kry vir jou pappa.....

@IvW. would you have a suggested or preferred builder for the .500 J?
Subjective question & mostly unaffordable in my lifetime .. however, ie. "Heym Express"?

Daniel, I'd say that if you can find a Bennie Laubscher 500, then you'd be more than happy.

Me too. Very nice.
The Duane Wiebe 500s are very nice too. Very well proportioned as the Laubscher rifles are.

I hate to say it but that rifle has sold some time ago. It was with westley richards in the UK

Really? I have a several Sako's in big calibers, and I've never had any issues

They are always too light for caliber to start with....may be acceptable for a visiting hunter....personally never met a PH who uses them as a personal backup rifle for DG.....
I had a hirrible experience with 1 in 375 H&H many moons....once bitten twice shy....yes really.

Interesting opinion. I had a PH back me up on my last buffalo hunt with a sako. I'm glad I've had a better experience with the sakos.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
